Why to hatefuck?

I'm recently toying with writing hatefuck story, which starts with hatefuck and ends with hatefuck (so no Enemies to Friends, Enemies to Lovers and such - just Enemies to Enemies). And although there's plenty of reason for hatefuck to continue (but I need only one: the sex is just too fucking good), I'm struggling with coming to the idea why it had even started. Like what could push two people who hate each other to have sex. Don't get me wrong, I don't need smut to be 100% realistic (quite a contrary), but I'm looking for at least somehow plausible motivation.

Yeah, a former couple after a bad breakup is the most plausible motif. Like they remember how good sex was, and could be even better eithput caring for the other.

Reminds me of downstairs neighbors we had back when we were first married. Couple moved from Kansas to Chicago for his work. Wife stayed at home, lonely no friends, was on blood pressure meds (no drinking). He’d come home from work, they drank (she was raised to never let her man drink alone), and the fights would be loud spectacles, especially after work parties because she was insecure and jealous. My guess is that it usually involves a third person. For example, a man is married to a woman who has a sister. The sister is a spiteful bitch, and they both dislike her intensely. But eventually, the wife turns hateful as well, and leaves the husband. He figures nothing will make her more furious than for him to fuck her sister. The sister also figures nothing will make her more furious than for her to fuck the ex-husband. So despite their hatred for each other, they do it, and send the video to the ex-wife.

The only story I can remember where there was a true Hate Fuck that was really pulled off in terms of being likely, was in the movie Dead Calm. I never read the book by the same name, but in the movie, Nicole Kidman is alone on a sailboat with a murderer, and is trying to knock him off his game. She does it by having sex with him, but its all trying to get him sleeping off the sex, or thinking she likes him now...anything to get the upper hand. Sadly for her, it does not work.

If you are asking psychologically what creates the hatefuck drive, some of it is just uncontrollable sexual attraction to what the person looks like or even being sexually aroused by their negative personality traits.

A person may intellectually know those are negative traits and despise that but emotionally its always triggering them sexually.

I’ve only very rarely been in a situation like that and one time it was quite one-sided of me and a woman who did not get along, it led to her suddenly one day giving me an upskirt. I could detail my experience if it would be helpful, but the gist is it is more a type of people, as well as a reason they need to associate with each other. Point is the type of person who is a risk seeker, likes the adrenaline rush. Risk, fear, anger, rage all create this. People with a primal lean often enjoy the adrenaline mixed in with the dopamine and oxytocin and other sexual hormones and may enjoy angry sex. Two of these people with both traits can get off on their dislike of each other and even feed it for sexual excitement, especially if you add another adrenaline trigger on top to kick start it. Pair of coworkers who are always competing with each other. Each has personality traits the other can’t stand about the other. They are forced to start working on projects together which leads to late nights at the office. They end up getting pissed with each other, and it is preventing them from being able to do their work. The only way they can relieve the tension is by hate fucking each other to get some clarity.
