Why the press is an organ of the Democrat Party and why that will change.

She was worth more in terms of $$. More people know her than Ed Klein.

pssst - politics sells!

Which is why Limbaugh, Boortz, and Hannity have all the coolest toys.

What happened to Power Corrupts?

I gave you profit as a partial motivator but can give you more examples of how tempting it is for reporters, who don't answer to the advertisers, using the power of the pen in order to set, or direct, the political agenda. Yes, sensational stories DO sell print, you are correct, but their profits are in decline. What you should think about is your conjecture that profit is the sole motivating factor because when one major corporation bought one of the big three (I forget who and which one) and demanded that the news division turn a profit, they rebelled and quashed that silly little notion which is why I say the news is a loss-leader on the networks and not beholden to he bottom line but beholden to the search for power.

Journalism students don't go into the business to report the facts, but to use the power of the pen to make a difference.

I see it as the primary motivator for the MSM. There are plenty of reporters with their own agendas. But you're not going to see a corporation allow those kinds of reporters to push their own personal agendas over the corporations profit oriented one. With the growth of so many news channels and the internet, there's much greater competition for "readers" and "viewers" than ever before. The fight for advertising dollars has never been so great.

Profits are generally in decline because people are learning they can get their news from not just television and print. It has very little if anything to do with an alleged liberal or conservative media bias. Journalism students' main goal is to become famous for their work. With fame usually comes ...hold on, here's that word again ... profit.

Again, how you can see a private business sacrificing profits/ratings just to carry out an agenda against an ideology is truly amazing.

I know.

Stirring shit and going against the perceived "ones in control", aka bucking authority, sells. Kissing ass doesn't.

Bingo!

Pooks, if newspapers and their ilk were profit centers, you'd see more talk about them in the financial news.

As a guy who invests, I can think of a hundred better vehicles for my money than the news industry.

They are not in the game for money. It's something they would rather not deal with, but are forced to by reality so that they can have continued access to power and the ability to manipulate readers on issues and events.

And again, you are correct in that competition has hurt them badly which goes to my point of the breaking up of the oligarchy. But I note that the reporters are not changing their stories to entice the readers back, but continuing to report what they "feel" is the truth...

So, because they're not talked about as much in the financial news as others makes a difference when it comes to a private business' motive to make a profit? You can't be serious, can you?

It's kinda hard for any business to carry out ANY agenda when they can't pay their bills. Saying a private business isn't in it for the money is just silly, AJ.

Look at what just happened with Ed Klein.

He was booked by all the majors and then dropped even though he made #1 on the Times best seller list.

It wasn't because the advertisers threatend to pull their ads, but because Team Clinton threatened the with-holding of access to Hillary.

It never hit #1 on the NY Times list.

Given the fact that conservative commentators like Podhoretz savaged the book as being full of fabrications, why would Hillary Clinton go along with people who try to trash her?

You have a wierd idea of fairness.

Fuck, this shit just drives me fucking nuts. It's pure post-modern bullshit. "I don't like what the media says, so just accuse them of being partisan and try to build an opposing partisan press."

It's to the point where "truth" means nothing in American politics. There are no facts, just red facts and blue facts.

Hannah Arendt said that totalitarianism is the victory of politics over truth, and we're all on a one way trip to hell.
