Why the fuck does my post count matter to you?

I have no idea what my post count is most of the time. I didn't give a shit when I reached 1,000 other than a momentary "Cool I get to pick a title" thought.

You'll never see a thread started by me about my 10,000th post. Not that I am judging those who do. Whatever makes you giggle is cool with me.

I post when I want to, be it a long meaningful multi paragraph post about something that moves me or matters to me, or a short, one sentence joke or moment or bit of banter that makes me, and hopefully a few others laugh.

I don't think about every post. I don't plot out what I'm going to say in Word before pasting it here. Lit is FUN for me. It's a place to get out my frustrations, argue the things that truely matter to me and meet people I have various outlandish things in common with.

Yes it's often thought provoking and touching, but it's mostly entertainment. Fun. A frivilous break from my day.

So I've wracked up quite a few posts I guess.

What's my point? Well, several times during thoughtful discussions people who I've disagreed with have used my post count as a means of proving I have nothing of value to add to any conversation and could not possibley be more intelligent than a door stop. That pisses me off. If you're that desperate for a way to discredit me it only means you are too pig headed to admit I may have a point.

So just for future reference, when arguing with me, or anyone else on the board, when you see yourself reaching for the number under their name as a means to devalue their thoughts, just back away and move onto another discussion. You've obviously reached the limit of your debate skills.

I'm waiting for someone to ask to see your rack...

I agree with you hun. Every once in a while I look over to see mine just cause I see someone excited about reaching a specific number. More power to them.

I think your comment of it being all fun is what matters most. If it is fun to count post totals...don't look to me I hate math. :D

BRAVO, ty darling!!!
Oh yeah and to add to what she said, if you resort to name calling and bashing those that disagree, pretty much the last lines suits you also.

All I want is an Avatar and then I will never mention my post count again. :)

I think it's sad that you should have to state the obvious, one can only hope it helps.

Right. Umm, except when I do it.

Paglicacci, I love your name. Welcome to Lit.

I realize that I am reaching the fabulous 1000 mark and it really makes no difference one way or the other. I have no title picked out...

I do however realize the 'meaning' of a post count of 1000 or high 100's. What I have come to see it as is a commitment (not that kind:)) to the lit community. If you've been around to say 1000 things then this is place you call home. I would never look down on a newbie (i still feel like one) yet we know how they blaze in and sometimes out even quicker.

Lit is not for everyone, but i appreciate what it is made from and that I can come here to 'get away' and 'come home' at the same time...

:)

Thank you, on both counts :)

I love your dragon quote,I've seen it used somewhere else and it always puts a smile on my face.

My favorite people are the ones who think they have the right to insult you or treat you like a child unworthy of thier respect because they have a high post count.

I love those people.

I have a feeling those people have been insulting since their very first post...

You need to learn these things if you're to become a "kewl l337 h4x0r"

It's not really a matter of having too few or too many posts that's bugging me, but the idea that if you wrack up a lot of posts in a short period of time (both a lot and short being realitive) you never post anything of substance and are ignorable in all serious arguments.

It's like saying Einstein never had an intelligent thought because he liked fart jokes (not that I'm comparing myself or anyone here to Einstein, but you get my point).
