Why So Serious?

"Then why would he have scrawled you a thank you note while he made his escape? Hmm? Its apparent that HE felt you had helped him to escape. Three guards are dead because of the Joker, Miss Quinzel. Don't let their deaths be for nothing... If you know ANYTHING that would help us recapture him before he kills again, please... Tell me." Gordon asked calmly, leaning back in his seat.

Her eyes narrowed, she didn't know anything! At least, she didn't think she knew anything. She had long forgotten about the blog that had even gotten her to the position of psychiatrist, even she even had that job any longer. "I don't know a thing. If I do find out anything, though I will be sure to call you Mr. Gordon." She said, trying to remain calm.

"May I leave now? I have lots of business to attend to." Harleen said, brushing her blonde hair behind her shoulders.

"Yeah, you do that, Miss Quinzel..." Gordon said as he handed her his card while standing up. "Actually, I believe Miss Power had something to talk to you about as well. Just a moment and I will send her in." He said as he adjusted his suit and went to the office door.

Harleen could see the two of them talking out in the hall for a moment before Julia turned and entered the room. She went around Harleen to sit in her seat before speaking. "Miss Quinzel, due to the circumstances, I'm afraid I am forced to demote you back to intern status. I am very sorry..."

"W-what? No! Ms. Powers you have to believe me. I didn't break the joker out, whatever happened last night had nothin to do with me. Granted, I did give him the medicine b-but...I watched him, just like ya told me too.I swear it! I was just double crossed that's all. You can have all my notes for the journal thingy."

Harleen felt like crying, this couldn't have been happening to her. So what? The joker had tricked her, he was a criminal. If she had been a guy though, they wouldn't have gone through this much drama. The male psychiatrist would've been innocent.

"I believe you, I don't think you intended to help the Joker break out. But he DID use you, trick you... All of us into this situation... I no longer need your notes. You see, he was lying to you the whole time. Your findings are not publishable. I'm sorry Harleen... I'm so sorry... If... If you don't feel you can intern here any longer, I will understand. I can give you a letter of recomendation though."

Tears that she had tried to restrain came falling down her cheeks."I-I understand." Then she shook her head at the question of interning somewhere else. It would take her ages to get to where she'd almost gotten to. "I'll go brew you some coffee.." She whispered then walked out of the door.

At first all she could feel was despair, pain, and then anger. It wasn't her fault the joker had tricked her. He was obviously more brilliant than he'd led on. He could've easily tricked one of those stupid Arkham psychiatrists and what about Julia Powers? How was she soo much better than the joker? She sent other psychiatrists in there but not once had Harleen watched her go in there.

"They'll pay for this one day. One day I'll be the best psychiatrist in the world and they'll all be beggin for my forgiveness. Just you wait..." she said to no one in particular as she walked into the break room and started brewing up some fresh coffee.

Julia gave Harleen a wane, obviously fake smile, her eyes glossy with tears. "You don't have to... do... That..." She answered as Harleen walked out.

Tess was passing by, down the hall from Harleen as she came out of Julia's office. She looked up from her notes, giving her a double take as Harleen entered the break room.

Tess followed, hiding just around the corner, listening in as Harleen talked to herself. She stepped into the room then, confronting her.

"Pay? Who are you going to make pay? Huh? You thought you were getting inside that nuts head, didn't you? Thought you were 'fixing' him, right? Well, you're just as crazy as he is, if you really thought you were making him better. You're... Such... A... Joke!"

The only words Harleen heard was...you're such a joke. It echoed in her mind, this perhaps was what had brought her to the point of madness, being called a joke..again. Suddenly she could hear the jokers insane laughter ringing in her ears along with what he said or at least the most important part of what he'd said.

"They just called you a joke beause they were jealous whores. They wanted so badly to have what you got, that they turned on you. Its the cosmic joke, the one NOBODY GETS! Well... Almost no one..."

Yes, Tess was jealous thats all. She was jealous that Harleen had met such a wonderful guy like the joker, cured him, and had so cleverly escaped because he didn't wish to wait for the time when she would be able to set him free. Harleen's eyes glazed over for a second, before turning her attention on Tess.

"Fuck you, Tess." She said, not even bothering to answer her question, before storming out of the break room, then outside of the Arkham Asylum, and then back home. She couldn't stand to be in that place for the rest of the day. Harleen sighed and sat down by her computer, a piece of paper caught her eye.

The web address to the blog. Curious about where the Joker was and what he was saying, she quickly typed in the address, user name, and password. Angel.

"Wha? I... I'm gonna tell Miss Powers everything you said, you bitch!" Tess shouted after Harleen as she stormed away. "You'll never be nothing but a intern now!"

Mood: Indulgent

Oh happy day, an angel showed me the way... Out that is. Now, how to repay the favour? How about flowers. I know, I know, awefully sentimental of me. I wonder where I can find some dandelion's this time of year... That way, we can have fun popping off their heads! Hah! Hahahahaha!!!

Signature: Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light?

Harley's eyes widened and she felt a small blush creep over her face. So then, Angel was apparently her nickname. She had helped him, unintentionally. Sighing she shook her head, this did not bode well and though Harley had planned to take the web address to Commissioner Gordon, now that it apparently liked her to the scene of the crime, there was no way she was going to show it to him.

Harleen's inbox popped up, showing one new message.

The message title read.

One down, ten more dandelions to go.

The body contained a pair of video links.

The first was a local news report about a mysterious break in at Harleen's old high school.

The second was a missing persons report reguarding Heather Flowers, a mother of two, who was abducted from her home the same night Harleen recognized the woman even though she had put on significant weight since their days together as Dandelion's, her old schools nick name for their cheer leaders.

Harley wasn't sure how to respond to the email. She wasn't sure if she should feel flattered or a little creeped out. It was sweet, in a jokerish kind of way, if one could consider the abductions of a past highschool cheerleader who tormented you as sweet.

Harley hit reply, not sure why she did but she started typing.
"12 Dandelions, Julia and Tess count as one too."

From,
Harlequinn

In her signature she put, "From Intern to psychiatrist, to intern once more"

Less than a minute went by before Harley got another message notice.

An even dozen it is then.

I'm off to the market to crack a few more eggs.

Signature: Why so SERIOUS? Let me put a SMILE on your face!

Off to the market to crack a few more eggs? She didn't get that one and figured it was useless to try and understand him. She logged off, then stood up to get ready for bed, she'd taken a quick shower and passed by the computer.

Was she really an accomplice with the joker now? What if Gordon found out? What would be left of her career? She didn't want to think of it, at the moment she had no career. What was the point of thinking about her future? Harley sighed and slid into bed, drifting to sleep.

The next morning, she debated on whether to go to work or not.

There was a knock at Harleen's front door as she lay in bed debating weather or not to go to work.

Peeking out from her upstairs bedroom window, she saw a black car parked out front, in the drizzling rain. They knocked again, whoever it was, calling out. "Miss Quinzel, its Commissioner Gordon, I know you're in there! We need to talk!"

A message alert popped up on her computer screen as well, saying that she had 7 new messages.

"Ummm....coming!" Harley said, as she walked towards the computer. She gazed at the computer for a second, 7 new messages. She gulped and quickly shut down her laptop and stuffed the web address in her pocket before answering the door.

"Oh, hello Mr. Gordon, what can I do for ya? I'm in a terrible hurry for work and I'm sure Miss Powers would be nothin to pleased with me being late." She sent him an innocent smile.

Commissioner Gordon held a hand up to pause Harleen, saying. "Miss Power's is missing, abducted from her home last night, along with Tessa Williams. I understand that you left work early yesterday. And after Miss Powers spoke with you, you have an altercation with Miss Williams? Mind if I have a look around?" He asked, looking past her, over her shoulder.

"S-she's missing?" Harley said in shock, she was sort of shocked. She didn't think he would actually take her seriously when she said add Miss Powers to the list along with Tessa. "Uhm, sure go ahread." She wasn't sure what he had expected to find. "But what exactly are ya trying to say? That I abducted Ms. Powers and abducted Miss Williams as well? Just cuz you have an argument with someone doesn't automatically make ya the criminal ya know."

"Quite frankly, Miss Quinzel, these are not isolated incidents. There's the matter of the Joker's break out the night before. The men he killed. They were good men... Now this... I think you know more about whats going on than you're telling me. So yes, you are certainly a person of interest in this ongoing investigation. Do you have an alibi for your whereabouts last night?" Gordon said as he looked about her appartment.

"I do actually, I was at home the whoooooooole time." Ha, he didn't have anything on her. "I came home early from work because Tess had...said somethings thats upset me and I didn't want to take out my anger on her, poor thing. I didn't want to take out my anger on anyone, so I came home and I stayed home for the rest of the evenin." Harley said, purposefully not mentioning her emails that she'd gotten.

"I see, and do you have anyone that can corroborate that you were home?" Gordon asked as he finished his quick inspection of Harleen's apartment. He could see in her eyes that she didn't. "Mmh... A word of friendly advice, Miss Quinzel... Don't leave the state." He said as he turned to leave her apartment, shaking his head. "I'm gettin too old for this... If only Batman were here..." He muttered as he shut the door behind him.

Harley clenched her fists as he walked out, then she slammed the door. "Asshole." It wasn't her fault that the Joker actually obeyed her wishes. She sighed and turned her computer on and then waited for everything to load up before, going to her email to read the 7 new messages that she hadn't gotten a chance to read.

Each email only contained a number, presumably counting how many of her old high school class dandilions had been 'picked'. The Joker was down to three by the final email, citing the happy coincidence that a couple of the dandilions now lived together, as lovers.

Harleen got another email just then, which contained an address to a warehouse some where in the industrial park part of Gotham. There was a line of blue text, obviously a hyperlink, which read "Click me to delete message."

Harley couldn't help but giggle at the emails. They were sick, very true but she couldn't help but feel the slightest bit of amusement. She'd really needed the laugh after what had just happened to her. Her eyes glanced over at the link and she clicked it.

For a moment Harley's computer screen want black before bringing up a giff image of a laughing clown as smoke suddenly poured from her tower's exhaust vents. Whatever the link was, it had obviously just destroyed her hard drive.
