Why so few hits?

I started in Esoteric Transvestite theme and got a ~100000 hits and nice marks.
I did one piece on Loving wives and got also a ~100000 hits and a 2.7 mark. I think I broke a record there. Do I get something other than scorn?

So I ran away from the wives into erotic coupling
I figured Erotic coupling was mainstream as you get with most people going there.
I started a new series on Erotic coupling and got a low score which is ok because it had 6 votes but a very low ~1000 hits (which doesnt mean 1000 people actually read it).

So, what am I doing wrong?

You're on the 'popular authors' for Erotic Couplings for the last seven days, so maybe you just need to not worry too much about it.

I read the first chapter of your 60 year old conflict story and didn't find it particularly erotic - it's a war story, pretty angry, probably not what gets the high votes in erotic coupling. Not really my cup of tea - sorry.

Erotic couplings has a very transient readership because it doesn't have any overwhelming theme or kink. They're just fuck stories.

Unless you really catch someone with the title and tagline, they fade into the background pretty quickly.

Most people are here looking for a kink. Erotic couplings is the last resort -- the dumping ground for anything that doesn't fit anywhere else.

Yep it's a story, the sex is not the holy grail of the story like most other stories in Literotica, just the tool. Maybe I should change the theme to Romance? Or that would just score me even lower points as no one comes top Literotica to read romance?

Romance can often do better than EC, simply because it has a specific focus on emotion as much as ( or rather than ) sex.

Can't say if your story fits, as I have't read it, but any time you have a specific theme that runs through a story, most categories are better for readership than EC.

There's a way to change category for a posted story?

You'd have to either delete it altogether and resubmit it (and lose all of the comments/votes) or PM Laurel and request a category change. You'd have to give a good reason why, though, at Laurel retains the right to post it anywhere she pleases.

The reality, though, is that this story has spit its wad in terms of comment and voting. Those taper off quickly after the initial postings. I doubt you'll get much satisfaction by trying to change anything at this point.

10x, I'll go with option number 1. The story goes for emotion. As for losing the votes - there were ten of them and three comments total and ~2000 hits. So no big deal losing them, will give me a chance to fix some stuff.

Cheers

Hmmm, I've just changed the category of a story I had pending from EC to Romance. It's the third in a series, the first two were EC but this is the epilogue and there's not really a sex scene in it so I didn't think EC was valid. Will see how it goes.
