Why read and comment on things you don’t like?

Yep, there are a few that do make comments like that. One of them, a member for around 7 years, has left over 35,000 comments, around 5000 per year and probably over half of them are just like - "Don’t know about the previous six chapters, but this wasn’t worth the effort in writing or reading."

There's a reason why KFC stopped selling nuggets. Because people wanted chicken but didn't like that particular kind of chicken, so they gave it bad reviews nobody asked for and KFC stopped selling them.

You like KFC, you didn’t like their nuggets and left them a negative review. Were they dry? Too greasy? Not seasoned properly? Etc. Fair enough.
What isn’t right is someone who hates fried chicken in general and especially KFC.
But a person drives past a dozen or so other fast food places that typically make up Main St., drive directly to KFC, order the nuggets then leave a review stating how much you hate fried chicken

Nobody gives a shit what "people are talking about".
The OP's question was: Why do people leave bad reviews on stuff they know they won't like?
And the answer is simple: Because they don't like it, they want it gone from the place they do like. So they rate it badly to discourage authors from producing even more of it.

What you refuse to acknowledge is that it's not about pizza-haters going into a pizzeria to badmouth pizza. It's about pizza-lovers going into a pizzeria to badmouth the particular flavor they want off the menu. Or are you seriously claiming that these people visit to literotica.com despite not liking erotic literature, only to troll?

People don't like humiliation-cuckolding stories in Loving Wives. Move them to Fetish, and you're good.

I had a reader comment on one of my chapters that's no longer posted here. Not because of what the reader wrote. Personal reasons. Anyway, the reader's comment made me chuckle. I didn't take offense to it. Readers' choice award for commenting though because most readers don't, unless they want the writer to know their thoughts and feelings. And as a writer we have the option to remove those, right? Sorry. It's been a while since I've visited Lit.

There are very few authors on here who don't get discouraged by low scores, as proven by the never-ending complaints in the AH about how "toxic" LW has become... because why move your Fetish-stories into the Fetish-Category, when you can just as well post it in LW, garner a bigger audience, and then blame the "costumers" for not liking your product.

And it may not be deserved or justified from your POV. But from the readers' POV, who have been bred into entitlement by getting whatever they want, for free, for the last thirty years,... that's a different story. They feel absolutely like they deserve to get what they want, as it is the readers finding what they want on here that keeps the site running.
You may think it's the authors who provide the site with content. But it's the readers who make up the bulk of the traffic, and therefore the bulk of clicks on the banners and shop items.

Well, we don't just think this. It's unimpeachably and self-evidently true.

Also true the readers drive the traffic.

Almost like we mutually benefit from the arrangement.

And then there's LW, which is the site's human centipede, locked in our dank basement. The door's kept open for anybody that wants to go down and gawk. But most sensible people just stay on the upper floors. The stench from below is more than sufficient.

imagine I just don’t like pizza. Really don’t like it. And I go to a pizza restaurant and leave a comment saying it is a bad restaurant as I don’t like pizza. Why go and eat there?

Same happened with my story. The tags are clear, you know what you are going to read. Why read it and tell me you hate reading about the things you knew were going to be there?

It is an anonymous comment, so well, never mind. But I do wonder, why does someone do that? Any ideas?

I don’t like heavy metal. Not going to a concert but I do appreciate that someone might like it and leave them to enjoy it.

I think @Abdelkaoolomocro that some folks just do it to serve their own narcissistic needs. They have a need to belittle others to feed their own desire to be judge, jury and executioner.
I had a partner like that once. They'd cum like a cyclone, beg for more then, in the afterglow, proceed to tell me what I could have done better, or differently to make it better for them. Never understood that either.

I honestly think it's just egotistic. They're not doing it to troll or because they're stupid... I think they either genuinely believe that, if they don't like it, nobody else could possibly like it, or that they simply don't care what others may like.

Again, not what it's about. These commenters aren't campaigning to make people abandon their kinks, these commenters are campaigning for people to stop sharing the kinks the commenters don't like.

I have to admit that I honestly don't understand that argument. Why wouldn't people who feel justified in their actions then take said actions?

Sometimes it's not the tags or subject that turn you off, it's the presentation. Especially in the Sci Fi I'll start reading a story and it's all explaining the different kingdoms and why they don't get along and what they've done to each other in the past. Meanwhile I'm saying, "Just start the story already."

Good evening,
As an avid reader/writer of Sci-fi I agree with you wholeheartedly but that is because I have a great, and wide ranging, knowledge of the subject so that I am able to "suspend disbelief". That is, I can accommodate what the author is saying because I have come across similar material before. I ask my readers of Sci-fi to just "believe" what I'm saying is real.

There are certain books, or book series' that don't lend well to that however. As an example E.E. 'Doc' Smith ~ "The Lensman" series. Without a basic understanding of the "Mule" and his origins, and a basic knowledge of "The Seldon" theories you won't get thirty pages in. The same, however, can be said of the Author of books such as "Firefox", a modern, real time fiction piece. In those books the introduction is basically pages of acronyms, which are used throughout the book and you're supposed to remember what they stand for - ah, no!

Sometimes you can "vignette" a story, sometimes you can't and that, basically, involves the length and complexity of your story. That, my dear colleague, is why such things happen.

My favorite is when they clearly read the whole story and then left a scathing comment, especially when they're giving literary critique. Who is on here grinding their wank session to a halt to talk about how much you don't like the writing? Move on and find something you actually enjoy, perhaps??
