Anectdotal evidence, which has been confirmed by a comprehensive CDC study, shows the a growing disparity between the number of young women and young men involved in gay or bisexual lifestyles.
While slightly more young men still identify as "gay" than young women (though the gap is quickly closing), a huge gap exists between young women who express sexual attraction to both sexes than exists among young men. However, those who may point out this as being biologically based might be surprised to learn that this gap barely existed as recently as a generation ago (again reference CDC study), and the gap continues to grow at an extremely rapid rate with each passing year. While these young women may still be reluctant to call themselves "gay," anectdotal evidence in fact increasingly indicates more and more of them are have primary relationships with other women rather than men despite any self-labelling as "bisexual." They are in fact, increasingly, in practice shunning serious monogamous relationships with males.
It is beyond dispute, that societies in which large numbers of young men are unable to find stable longterm relationships with females are subject to far more crime and anti-social young male behavior. Those who have no problem with gay sex, should still be concerned by this rapidly growing phenoma for that reason alone. At the very least, the reasons why so many young women seem repelled by relationships with young men should be explored.
While the conventional explanation would obviously relate to the fact that most young people, females included, grow up without positive male role models in the home today, many without knowing a father at all. Though, there is no doubt this plays a role, I would suggest we need to look further at why young men are increasingly unappealling to young women? Perhaps the fact that too many young males today are lazy, video game addicted losers, with boorish attitudes, frequently unemployed, slobby and out of shape, could be part of the problem? I'm not saying it is all their fault, but its worth asking if they could be contributing to the growth in this phenomena.
