Because the Monkey God's name "Aquila" means Eagle.
Monkey God is just a side job.

I knew there was a perfectly reasonable explanation.

The Monkey God thing makes me think of King Louie from Disney's Jungle Book. I liked that movie when I was little, but to this day I cannot stay awake for the whole thing. I always fall asleep when it's in the burning stuff part. Dunno why.
