Why does anyone NEED an assault rifle?

It was designed so that everywhere in the country had a say in the Presidential election not just the major metropolitan areas. The way the country is populated now New York and California would decide every single Presidential election and disenfranchise the rest of the country. I do not care what the so called "Founding Fathers" had to say about anything. They were intelligent and well educated for their time, but they were not infallible.

Also, the United States they governed was very different than it is now.

~50K gun deaths per year.
~ 1/2 suicide; leaves 25K
~3% involve rifles, for the sake of this that is 100% assault weapons. Assume*
