Why do you workout?

I've seen mention on many threads of people that workout, one way or another. Whether somebody mentions their workout music, or that they are on their way to the gym.

So I'm curious, what is the main reason that you workout (of course if you don't, then no need to answer)?

What motivates you to keep going, day in and day out? Or if not as often, what gets you to keep your schedule?

What do you consider a good workout? Weights, running, gym, or what?

Stress relief. I ride my stat bike 30-45 min a day to work out my antsies.

I've been working out (bodybuilding/powerlifting) since 1985. My first goal was for weight loss (getting ripped & defined). But I later became interested in muscle and strength gain, i.e. powerlifting.

My motivation comes from the various magazines and books that I read. Presently, I get my greatest motivation from the magazine, POWERMAG (www.powermag.com) and the website, www.trulyhuge.com .

My greatest workouts involve both cardiovasular and weight training. This may sound strange (I know it would to me) but I know that I've had a great workout when I can't leave the gym without first going to the restroom to take a crap. LOL

In a way like Laurel stated, it relieves stress. Only in my case, I'm flushing my stress down the toilet.

I do it also as a stress burner, plus being diabetic, it helps keep my sugar under control. Plus tones muscles and I've actually lost alot of weight since putting myself on a diet and excersising on a regular basis.
I can't say that I keep an exact schedule since I spend alot of time at work. But I have been known to speed walk up and down the aisles and climb the stairs in the back room a few times every day. For the most part, I don't do any real weight lifting, unless you count stocking shelves, but even that's only once a week. I have no gym near me, but I was just give the tai bo tapes that I've really really wanted so I suppose I'll be starting those this week too.

I work out in hopes one day my legs will be in the shape they were before my acceden't

The alternative is unthinkable

Wal-Mart....on a Sunday...express line.

That's why.

And So I can dress like this

And it helps if you can outrun your daughters boyfriends.

Stairclimber...light weights...racquetball and basketball with the my sons.

To feel good.
To relieve stress.
To have more stamina.
To live longer.
To look good.
To improve my health.
To be more fit.
To be stronger.

And my largest motivation? I've lost a lot of weight over the past couple years. For both my health and myself. My biggest motivation to continue to work out regularly is to maintain my weight and my fitness. I put too much time and effort into getting where I am now, I'm not going to let it slip.

I love the feeling of my blood slowly heating up and throbbing through my body. I can feel my lungs expanding, sucking down the air into my overheated chest. My heart pounds, making my blood rush faster until even my nerve endings have picked up on the urgency. Then there's the incredibly sensuous feel of my muscles moving under my hide, stretching and flexing, tightening and clenching with each controlled move. It makes my skin flush and my body wet, sweating with the power of exertion.

That and I work out in an army gym where dozens of well built half-naked men preen for me while I do it. :)

I enjoy my workouts. I workout at home, and originally did it to lose weight, which I did.

My question stems from a complete lack of motiviation over the last month :(

I was curious how you keep going. There are no women in my garage. But working out does feel good, and vanity is a trait of mine.

I'll have to figure out how to get myself going more.

In the last two years I have had three major spinal operations. As a result I ballooned from being in really good shape, to looking like a beachball on legs. My fitness went from being able to play rugby to being hardly able to climb the stairs at home.

I want to be able to do more with my kids. I want to be able todo more for me. I want to live to see my munchkins grow up. That is all the motivation I will ever need.

The gym also gives me head space. There are no kids needing my attention, and no ex whining in my ear. I really enjoy my gym time.

Oh I tried

I'm pretty curvy so I tried being rubenesque, but I just sorta squared up (LOL)

So now it's workout or else.

I workout to feel good...endorphins and all. Side effects are looking better (chicks dig the pecks).... stress relief, sleep better .... I try to schedule a workout every day, even if it is a 20 minute walk.... I try to make my life better today than it was yesterday.... that keeps me going and motivated....
