Why do you choose to write erotica?

Sometimes I wonder why I write erotica but I don't write other non-erotic fiction. The only fiction I've ever written as an adult, and I've been an adult for a long time, is what I've written for and published here at Literotica. I don't know why. I have worked on some other projects but never followed through and published anything anywhere else.

Erotica is fun, and in a way it's easy. The idea of an erotic experience or situation in a way writes itself. It does for me, anyway. I think up a sexy fun situation, and then I write it until it reaches its climax. Voila, story. It's like a real-life sexual encounter.

Also, it's perfectly OK for an erotic story to be fun and sexy. I like to try to write as well as I can, but I feel no burden to be "literary." It might be different if I was trying to write something to submit to the New Yorker.

Having said that, I DO feel like I've become a better writer since I started here, and that's very satisfying as well.

Arthur Schopenhauer said something like, 'you are free to act as you desire, but not free to choose what you desire.'

And Eric Cartman always says, 'I do what I want.'

So I write because I want to do what I want.

Maybe with some deep reflection I could convince myself I don't 'want' to write, but I don't want to do that.
