Why do threads die and do people get blackballed?

Threads die because people either lose interest and have said all they wanna say, noone was interested to begin with, or because they found something else to post on and got wrapped up in it.

As for blackballing... not really that I know of, unless you create conspiracies adn fake your death.

I joined 6 different threads yesterday and then watched as all but one of them stopped. For a very long time. I finally logged out of Literotica and went about my day, deciding that there were better things to do. So now, I have two questions....

What causes a thread to die out? AND
Is there a hierachy in Lit and are some people ever blackballed?

Without looking, my bet is you posted to old threads that were on their way down the board anyway. Post to fresh threads (like this one. :) ) if you want to be part of an ongoing thread for awhile.

There is no clique or hierarchy in Lit. More people will open your threads though after you've been here awhile and people get to know who you are and what kinds of threads you start (political/fluffy/all sex/other.)

People who are blackballed would be those that most of the board have on ignore. Example: Hanns

Just bump them up again - people log on and off all the time

99% of people are anonymous to each other so it is nothing personal

1)Threads die from lack of interest.

2)Sponsorship can be a problem, too. There are posters that are more or less on theme, for example- Gay bashers, Bush bashers, Conspiracy theorists, misogynists. A lot of us know how a thread by one of them will go before it's written, so we don't even bother opening it.

Sometimes it is just timing, too. I often go back to earlier in the day to see if I can find good threads that died too soon to bump for the evening shift. Best example recently is calypso's thread on romance. It had no posts from yesterday morning when she started it until I bumped it last night.

Timing is everything. And that is a matter of luck.

Threads die for any number of reasons. A thread that might go on for a day or a few days today, might not be the same type of thread that would get half dozen posts a month from now. The general mood of the board plays a part in that.

As for blackballing someone, I don't think that happens in a formal manner. But I do think there are people that have lost so much credibility over time, no one cares enough to see what they have to say. So in a sense we can end up blackballing ourselves.

nothing worse then someone who bumps their own thread continuously in hopes to make it an all time thread....they bump, a few people post, it dies, days later they bump again, ad infinitum

You are responisible for your threads success or failure and must learn when it is time to let it go...which is sometimes after the first post...

Blackballing??

Nah, I don't think so.
Now blueballing I'm sure happens on here alot. ;)

But blackballing I'm not sure of at all. You might want to ask Marxist. :D

Feeling better and better. Thanks to everyone for bolstering my self esteem this morning. I thought for sure that I had said or done something and was now being ignored.
Did you say something?

..and JL, no worries girl, your threads always take on a life of their own ;)

As near as I can tell from watching the way things around here for the last year.
The only sure fire way of determining if you've offended the board is if you are assigned your very own troll.

Assignment of trolls in shifts, so that no matter what hour you are here you have a troll, means you've committed a serious offense. This should not be seen as a compliment.

Multiple trolls tag teaming your posts means it's time to change your nick.

;) :D

I'm still a bit groggy so I may have missed this answer being given..

I think that when your new you feel a bit like a thread killer, because you don't really know anyone, you're still getting a feel for the place etc etc..

So trust me when I say that in all likeliness the reason for your name being the last one listed on threads, is because they were already well on their way to dying. So it isn't anything personal. :)

Patient1 listed two good reasons for a thread's death. A third is that the thread starter didn't read the Board first to realize that five threads on the same topic are already on the first two pages. That used to happen all the time with Happy Birthday threads. It's happening now with the war threads.

I respectfully disagree with that guy up there who said you are responsible for a thread you start. It's a ripple you send out into the universe. If the universe answers back, good. If not, then send out another one.

But then again, I'm no expert sinceI haven't started a thread myself cuz...I'm shy.

HA HA HA HA HA!
