As ever part of my fixation is with poor Dakota Skye. The porn she did had many echoes of my own earlier real-life shenanigans. She was tiny like me. Flat chested like me. Blonde like me. I both wanted to be her and to fuck her (which I think someone once said about Joss Whedon and Buffy).

She went down the tattoo path and played different roles in her later videos. In retrospect you can see she’s pretty out of it in some later scenes. In parallel, she got hooked on drugs, got paranoid and eventually ODed.

I know it’s me, but I feel personal guilt about her. She made her own life choices, but I feel like I was part of the audience cheering (well masturbating) while she went off the rails. I worry that others are on the same trajectory.

I guess I see her tattoos as a leading indicator. It’s only one data point and as someone with a scientific background, I should treat it as such. But it was personal in some weird way.

It seems everyone these days is sporting tatts. Personally, I don't like them all over. If it's one or two discretely done tatts, maybe, but when it's all over your body, UGH. I think they detract from a woman's beauty. I want to see her, her skin, not tattoos.

Part of it I believe is that like a lot of things the social stigma of having tattoos that show has gone away.



My attorney has full sleeves, mid 40's, you can just see them if he is wearing shirt and coat, but in his office he tends to work with sleeves rolled up and they are on display.



Personally I know two women who were in porn both were light drug users before, the money and access increased their use. Both left porn, one eventually cleaned herself up. The other got clean while still making videos.

Speaking as an old man, why do so many people have tattoos (and other body modifications)? To me, to address the question, porn stars are part of the culture and they reflect trends within the culture, like tattoos and body mods.

I'll be honest, I am always put off by the sight of tattoos and body modifications...at first. Then, if I get to know the person, I usually get over the tats if it's a good person. Likewise, I don't seek out women with tats, but some of the sexiest porn stars have them, so it turns out I like tits more than I dislike tattoos.

I'm always curious about this subject. I'd like to know if the percentage of porn stars who have tattoos is disproportional to the general public, and if the body coverage of tattoos on porn stars is also disproportional.

I do think some porn stars use their tattoos as a calling card, or an identifier, so that people will recognize them easier. Riley Reid and Vina Sky come to mind first - both seem to have distinctive tattoos that help identify who they are. In a world where pictures of naked people are so easy to find, anything you can do to stand out isn't a bad idea.

It was interesting that someone mentioned using tattoos to cover needle tracks. I see some younger female porn stars with evidence of self-cutting, and also wonder if that happens to a higher proportion girls who go into porn verses the general public.

I would assume both of these numbers might be hard to ascertain. But it doesn't stop me from being curious.
