Why Do Many Minorities Lack ID?

fuck California

California poised to grant driver's licenses to young illegal immigrants
Fuck you.

California is an awesome State.

But, yes it is permissive.

That's just the way we like it here.

So.. go live in a neo-nazi State, like Connecticut.

Sorry it's 26 dollars. I remembered it as 50 cus I got my ID and driver's license at the same time. Stupid me. Still not free.

Reduced–fee ID card

You may pay a reduced application fee for an original or renewal identification card if you meet income requirements from a public assistance program. If you are eligible, the governmental or non–profit program will give you a completed Verification for Reduced Fee Identification Card form (DL 937) to take to DMV to apply for your reduced fee identification card.

See your local public assistance program agency for information about eligibility requirements and obtaining a DL 937 form.

As an aside, until 1983 and the Lawson case. It was illegal to walk around in California without "credible and reliable" identification. This was called the California Vagancy Law. In in my town the cops took it a step further and decided if your had no I.D. and no money in your pocket you could be arrested for Vagancy and/or run out of town.

And then we stopped behaving like fucking Nazis.

if you cant afford $50 for an ID

you are such a fucking loser you SHOULDNT be allowed to vote

anyone want their reps to be voted in by LOZERZ?

In what world are they free?!?

In what world is $50 CHEAP!??

ID's should be free because constitutionally it can amount to a tax upon voting.

So you can register for voting for free in most places and get a voter ID card for free and present something like an electric bill to prove place of residence. Legal residency therefore doesn't arise.

It varies from state to state. But most register to vote when they go get a driver's license or such, and they think that when they're paying for their license, which is not a tax on voting, but a prerequisite for driving.

In an ideal world. Sucks but we're working on it.

Fifty bucks (actually twenty six) is cheap in the real world.

1983 according to Vette and I have no reason to doubt him. Now get drawing before I decide your insides look better outside.

Dude, I'm actually procrastinating on manual labor. Tell me what you want and I'll draw that shit. I'll draw that shit like a motherfucker.

Some of you seem incapable of understanding what it means to feel disenfranchised in society. The right wing power brokers understand all too well and welcome the lack of political enthusiasm from the poor.

I will not disagree that people feel and are disenfranchised on many fronts.

Getting an ID it is not more difficult for a minority inherently than a non-minority in physical practice.

If a citizen lacks political enthusiasm and does not wish to participate, that's a separate issue. That's not only shared by minorities but by apathetic people across all financial strata. Everyone gets the same one vote.

Blaming the process of getting ID is bullshit, as is condemning the clerical attempts to keep those rolls accurate.

Not as far as I knew, and I lived in Los Angeles then.

I do remember, though, a city anti-vagrancy ordinance in San Marino... requiring one to have at least five dollars on their person.

Caltech students would walk around there with 499 pennies in their pockets and one penny in their shoe!

Have you ever been poor and felt disenfranchised?

I only opened this thread because the title mentioned minorities. I'm a minority, but I'm not black or hispanic. Now I have nothing to add from personal experience except that most of the Asian(and Indian) people I know have id.
