Why did Obama cancel on the troop visit today?

The Obama camp said they canceled the event after the Pentagon ruled it was a campaign event, and needed to be funded from the senator’s election kitty.

“Senator Obama did not want to have a trip to see our wounded warriors perceived as a campaign event when his visit was to show his appreciation for our troops and decided instead not to go,” Obama advisor, retired Gen. Scott Gration, said in a statement.

The Obama campaign’s chief spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said: “The senator decided out of respect for these servicemen and women that it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign.”

I heard that Obama was not going to be permitted to bring along the media hordes to document the visit so he canned it...
On a related note...Obama's people actually put up Obama banners and posters at holy sites he visited in the Middle East.

According to the news it was the pentagon that said he shouldn't do it and he said okey dokey.
Well, maybe not in those words.

They say the pentagon told them it would be viewed as a campaign stop. So?? That's what the whole trip has been.

Had I been stationed at one of the two bases he scheduled to visit and gone through all the bullshit that you know they went through, and then he canceled, I would be pissed.

Don't know what to tell ya. Maybe he's just being an asshole. I have no idea.

When the thread starter renounces his practice of bragging about Martin Luther King Jr. being killed in his state, I'll take his threads more seriously.

Asshole.

We all know blogs are useless. And not a good source for information.

Even if you had no intention of voting for the guy, if you were stationed on one of those bases, would you be pissed?

Just stopping in to say "Thanks, Dude."

Thanks to you, and Miles, and the other racist shitbag dead-enders, the bottom of the barrel has been scraped clean and polished. Hasn't looked that shiny since 1968.

Great job.

Racist?

How so?

Yet his tours of military installations in Iraq were campaign events as well. I don't recall him going there in his capacity as a Senator but I may be wrong.

I had rather him visit our troops on a campaign stop, especially after making the commitment to do so, rather than a speech to the German public.

I think he should have gone no matter what.

His party is the first one to bring up body counts like it really matters.

Or long wailings about how we're keeping them alive as just up on cripple creek...

Germany is the place where we're keeping troops for a hundred years; he should have told them why that was so bad.
