Whose This Anonymous Person...

Wondering About Voting

Ok, I know this has nothing or maybe something to do with this thread...But has anyone ever noticed that the number of votes on a story is reversing direction? I had 146 votes on a story a month ago, and now there are only 133 votes on the same story...Why would that happen? Do anonymous votes get thrown out? Has this happened to anyone else?

The Web site sweeps away what it considers invalid votes on a formula it doesn't reveal. You were likely hit by the sweeping during the recent themed contest (Valentines Day). People cheat left and right in contest voting, so lots of votes get swept away across the story file during this period.

I just got a Anon comment on my last story. "Too long and too repetitive". Well, when a man is forced to sexually please four women under penalty of death, I think it's supposed to be repetitive.

I hate when that happens, like you write something intentional, and the person can only complain about it like it's a problem...I have a story written from the perspective of an 18 year old girl's diary entries...Very intentional, the person even said, the character gave him a headache...I'd imagine listening to an 18 y/o babble would give most people a headache...So goal accomplished....

I just got this comment on one of mine????

YOUR KIND OF WRITING STINKS!

Now that I know your name I'll not read anymore of your crap stories.

Now that he knows my name? I haven't changed it lately, at least I don't think I have.

Really? Your work has an entire series that is an Editor's Pick...Most of your stories have a rating of Hot...I mean yeah, there are some negative comments posted by Anon, but you have no reason to fear them...Just a quick look at your submission page says that you write a lot, and most people enjoy what you write...Ignore it or delete it, but please don't let it define you as a writer...

Oh I don't. In fact I laugh at the negative posts. I write for myself. I write stuff I would want to read and have on this very sight. I have never let trolls define what I write or how I write.

I do thank you for your support and praise. Thank you very much.

Further Proof That Anon Likes Me

Overnight I received 5 comments all from Anon (assuming same person cause they were one after the other) that were just amazing and positive...You're right, Anon can be such a positive person...I may be falling in love...

Drive by voting bombs

And today I'm back down again, grrrr...so can't win with Anon, too bipolar...

Could you maybe start a new thread and this time spell "Who's" correctly in the thread title? It sort of is a score for anonymous otherwise.

Anonymous has anonymity to hide behind so he/she can say anything with impunity. Take it with a grain of salt and a dose of aspirin.

What gets me most about anonymous is the ones that ask a question? Some of the questions are pretty good but where do i reply to discuss it?

It's easy to ignore the anonymous posters whose literary skills stop at the end of a spray-paint can. But when an anonymous post raises a legitimate point it is frustrating not to be able to open a dialog. Some people apparently are shy about discussing erotica but not shy about reading it.

Or letting us know they are reading it but embarrassed that our story got them off, which is the point in the first place, so they rebel, trashing the story, the characters and the authors.

I just got hit by a very angry anon. They were apparently pissed that my latest poem was too cryptic for their tastes...why didn't they just try another poem. You would think I had killed their first born.

An anomaly of the human condition, it's called the bitch syndrome. Don't like something, bitch about it, even if your bitching will be laughed at. You got your digs in and there's no way for the author to fight back. Well there is one way. Write a story about them, post it in the humor/satire category.

I did and I only head from the anon once more, then they disappeared.

If you're interested, you can find Oh Crap! <----here.

That was pretty funny. You gotta love it when they blame you for their own failings. Anon was particularly illiterate in this one too. This is the offending poem . Not that complex if you are paying attention.

No...I've addressed the title in earlier posts on this thread...So, no...

Thank you.

Although I'm not really a fan of poetry I did get "it". I would like to know what anon thought he/she was going to be reading...or...maybe not.

I just consider the content. If it has some kind of valid point, I try to learn from it and leave the comment in place. If it's just an obnoxious comment that doesn't make any sense, then I delete it. Anonymous can say lots of nice things too, lol.

I post anonymously myself. I'm a long time reader of stories on this site. The reason I post anon is because in the past I have given constructive criticism to many authors. About 50% of them send me a PM with plenty of hate for my criticism. I've gotten some pretty nasty comments from good authors on here. Mind you, I didn't get nasty with my criticism either.

So, I decided to post anon. If writers can't take good criticism, then they shouldn't be writing.

Yeah, I know..... where's my stories? That's the other one I hate. I can't criticize unless I have my own stories. I guess I can't criticize the Minnesota Vikings because I never played football. I can't criticize the president because I've ever been in politics.

I don't get offended at constructive criticism, but sentences less than five words leave something to be desired. What gets me is the hate mail directed at the characters. You're yelling at fictional beings? When someone does that in the movie theater, I wonder if they've been on Lit.

i do consider all criticism and I have a couple of anon who had valid criticism and I took that on board. This was a personal attack. Over in poetry we had a rash of them yesterday and we think we may have identified a known troll as the culprit due to his use of an uncommon insult at one of the poets. This is pretty much a grudge manifesting.

Anonymous

Yeah, Anonymous has been surprisingly nice to me. I say surprising, because he/she/it/they leave(s) some awfully harsh stuff in other stories.

Thoughtful criticism should be taken in stride. Comments like "kill yourself" (I've seen this repeatedly on this site) say much, MUCH more about the person who left it than they do about the writer or the story receiving it.

Who--besides you--is to say your criticism is good--especially if you have no credentials to provide in writing yourself? The author you are criticizing probably thought her/his story was good too. And posting a story to Lit. doesn't automatically mean you are asking for any critique at all, good or bad. If the author hasn't directly asked for a critique, you shouldn't be surprised at having your hand bitten when you offer one unsolicited. (They'll be happy to take praise, of course).

And as far as anonymity, equal footing would be to only anonymously critique stories posted under the name Anonymous, wouldn't it? If you feel you have to critique anonymously, perhaps you should look into your motivation for critiquing at all. ;)
