From the Burnt Orange Report:

Michele Bachmann is Retiring, Leaving a Texan as Craziest in Congress

Michele Bachmann announced Wednesday that she will retire from Congress at the end of her term. She claimed unconvincingly that her decision does not come from the threat of Democrat Jim Graves taking her seat next year, nor from the ethics inquiries into her presidential campaign.

"Unfortunately today I am even more concerned about our country's future than I've ever been in the past," she said in a long video posted online.

Personally, I'm a little less concerned about our country's future now that Bachmann will be out of Congress. But that doesn't mean there aren't seriously problematic crazies left there - and guess what? All the candidates to replace Bachmann as the craziest person in Congress are from Texas.

Is it Rep. Louie Gohmert? He recently accused the Attorney General of siding with the Boston Bombers, claimed "radical Islamists" were posing as Hispanics and crossing the border, and said the Aurora shooting was a result of "ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs." Gohmert regularly goes on television and sounds about as aggressively ignorant as the worst stereotype of a Texan.

Or is it Rep. Steve Stockman? He recently brought up arming embryos with guns, said the Violence Against Women Act is bad because it is "helping the liberals," and compared the president to Saddam Hussein.

It could certainly be Sen. Ted Cruz. "Crazy Ted Cruz" has made McCarthy-ite accusations against Chuck Hagel, promoted paranoid fantasies about our government shutting down golf courses and building "hobbit homes," and spread deliberate Medicaid distortions. He is literally at Michele Bachmann-levels of lying to the American people. Cruz also plays the role of Bachmann in the Senate, spewing nonsense and ideologically trying to derail any semblance of progress in America.

No matter who you think is the craziest, one thing is sure: Texans will have to endure routine embarrassment and misrepresentation in Congress for years to come. But if we organize, we can force these schmucks into early retirement just like Bachmann. There is light beyond this fog of craziness.

Politicians are not displaying emotional lability based on the extent to which ya concur with them ideologically.

Given the panoply -- Nixon, Huey Long, Lyndon Johnson, Harding, Joe Biden, etc. -- Bachmann fits in.

Gohmert isn't merely crazy. He's also stupid. That killer combo makes him the most likely successor to Bachmann, whose ignorance about all kinds of things is legendary.

Minnesotans shoulda elected Wings' boobs to Congress instead of the boob Michelle Bachmann.

...wait...that doesn't sound quite like the compliment I envisioned it to be....

Aren't they the same people who elected Jesse Ventura? I'm not sure shame is an available emotion there...

What? We're talking about Minnesotans. They're a trifle embarrassed even to have ZIP codes.

You live there, explain to an outsider how the fuck she got elected and re-elected.

She's attractive and most people in her district were content to let the staus quo lie. She's in the richest area of MN, some there are still staunchly holding onto their conservative ideals. When Graves ran against her last election it made her camp panic by how close it was. Suddenly the millionaires aren't enough to keep her crazy ass in congress.

I have a story about this stupid woman but I can't share it here, believe me when I say, she's got to be the stupidest elected official I've ever met.

If Wellstone were still alive Minnesota would have a different political landscape.

But none of those are/were crazy. Not even Nixon, really.
