I'll go first: nobody. Not even the person I have sex with, who already knows what I'm into. It just feels too personal. I have no idea how normal authors look their friends in the eye knowing these people have read their books.

(Thread inspired by @MediocreAuthor asking about hiding things from her kids and me realizing I hide my writing from everyone.)

I'm the same: nobody. Every I know knows that I write for fun, and I publish lots of stuff under my real name. But the sex writing is 100% anonymous.

Only my other half knows that I'm on Lit. Other people know that I write, but no one else knows that I enjoy writing erotica.

My best friends, siblings and spouse all know I’m a filthy smut peddler. I’m not very secretive and honestly I wouldn’t hide it if I ever went mainstream, I’m shameless.

Husband is the only one who’s read my publications on-site and my writing on my other sites… he goes back and forth whether he likes it or not.

💡 I want my tombstone to have a weatherproof, solar powered tablet filled with all my writings from here for anyone who'll click yes on the 'are you 18?' box to read graveside. 🤩
I like that idea. I've always loved the image that a life is a series of ripples in a pond, spreading outwards, and that a person isn't really gone until the last ripple dies away.

I find myself pondering what circumstances would prompt person A to ask person B "say, by any chance do you write erotic fiction and post it online?"... 😁
People do ask where I write, and if they can read it. I'm usually pretty vague and try and change the subject.

My spouse, my (adult) children, my parents and siblings, some friends, and people in my local writers group all know I write spicy content.

None of them care one way or the other (meaning, none of them read my work but none of them look at me funny over it.)

My wife has known for almost two years, and she's reviewed some of my stories. Then she told a few of our friends. And she finally told our adult daughter that since the daughter has a degree in English creative writing, that she should proof some of my stories. She told our daughter in front of all of our other adult kids, too.

When my daughter read a few of my swinger-themed stories, she asked me "Are you two swingers?'

I replied, "Go ask your mother."

Uh, you do but NO-ONE does IRL; @joy_of_cooking you should do an Em-style poll of responses with a bar graph showing: 0 people, spouse, family, all the way up to @TxRad and "random people I stop in the street" :)

It's 100% non-compatible with a professional career. Oblique feelers as to "in general, if a person wrote..." have all come back negative. Latest one was [verbatim]:

Me: "So your friend grows and sells illegal substances? Okay, what's worse: making drugs or writing porn?"
Them: "Porn"
"Even though those drugs are illegal [where we are] and porn isn't? Why?"
"Porn is so ewwwwww."
"Yeah totally, eww - I mean, they're not breaking the law, but they're *perverts*, right? Uh, lovely weather today, isn't it?"
