One of my favourite albums is by Styx: Pieces of Eight.
The cover picture is half a face [towards the camera] obscured by a couple of heads.
It was made by Hypgnosis in London about 1978.
All women, all mature.
The grey-eyed one fascinates me; I get to wondering about her.

So I invite the Lit experts to give their thoughts.

I can't tell from the jpg used in the article, but isn't it the same woman with three different hair colors? The ears all look the same.

LOL I used to be a big Styx fan, actually. Kind of went backwards in that I first found them via "Mr. Roboto" and the Kilroy was Here album, which was not, shall we say, that great. But I liked their older stuff a bit more.

This album was fine but the picture never did much for me, didn't stick in my head or anything.

The one for Grand Illusion did.

Not just the ears, the earring and the neck. I think it is three images of the same woman.

at different times in her life ?

But the idea of working out what she does in a story makes me think.
Would she /does she, for example, maintain a distance; until she breaks and turns into a raging sex maniac ?

Well, they were obviously fascinated by the statues of Easter Island....

The problems is, that Hypgnosis is known for their extensive use of composites and post-production (before anybody knew those words) so it's almost impossible to find the name of that woman. It could be the assistants mom or a random picture from a desk or something. To them she would just be one feature in a collage.

The most likely place to find information, if there is any, would probably be Storm Thorgerson's book The Gathering Storm. You could also try e-mailing him at Storm Studios...
