Oh really? My computer prompted me to download it and it said "Limited Time" so I was a bit anxious about getting it done but now this makes me feel better.

No EULA's for software I use say that. But I'd be interested to know what other EULA's say the software company can, much less will, access, copy and share all data on your computer any time they feel like it.

Justifying bad policies because of other companies' bad policies seems pretty shortsighted to me.

Nothing I use syncs to "the cloud".

Windows 10 stores your bitlocker key on MS servers. Why one earth would anyone in their right mind give the key to all of their data to complete strangers?

The same people who let their photos go to the icloud.

I don't use any program that saves my data up on the cloud no matter who uses it. I support macs, pcs, and tablets. I know what the companies are doing.

My point is, people saying things about MS should be mentioning that Apple and Google to do the same thing.

Oh and dont forget apps like Facebook. Just putting that on a phone gives it so much data.

Had to upgrade for work purposes. Things noted:

1. Killed my studio USB sound interface. Not Microsofts fault, Roland is notoriously slow with updating drivers for their legacy hardware.

2. About 178.2% less annoying than Windows 8. But still has some minor annoying details.

3. Disabled my antivirus and activated Microsoft's own instead. Not a good idea, since it's shit. Problem solved with a reinstall of the AV.

Other than that... eh. It's Windows.

I have not read up on it at all yet so this is apocryphal: going by the trends in Microsoft's software offerings lately (like office 360 etc.) and the fact that Microsoft is making it so sweet and easy to acquire Windows 10 I am very afraid that it shall be a shell of a GUI and everything from notepad to calculator will be available for a "small annual charge" each. off course there shall be no need for things like control Panel (all app installs will be on Microsoft's cloud) You will not be able to run bootlegged Microsoft Office as the old ones shall not be supported and automatically un installed as will any other copies of any programs not properly licensed as Misrosoft will have to be liable for piracy etc. if the programs are installed on their cloud. There will be no need for local discs except for maybe a DVD player/writer (even that may not be needed. Microsoft will offer you networking/internet gateway from their cloud-end and you shall be encouraged to take that instead of say Comcast or AT&T for "Better streaming" due to their multiple caches and multiple OC48/96/128 Giga byte pipes to the internet. eventually... hel it is scary!! Today your computer tomorrow the world!!!

Very clever of MS to offload a huge proportion of their update server workload on to customers' machines.

I downloaded win 10 and forced it on a sluggish Win 7 which I was told didn't have supported networking devices - now I have a sluggish win 10 PC. Should have done a clean install. The unsupported network device means my wifi won't automatically start - so until Netgear updates the necessary driver or I buy a new card I have to click connect.

Much easier jump to win 10 from 7 than xp was to 8. I spent two days tweaking up a win 8 machine to look as much like xp for my parents, but the remaining differences basically kept them off their 1 yr old PC. I'll upgrade them to win 10 - they will find it much more friendly than 8.1

I have been using Cover tabs for Windows Explorer http://ejie.me/ for the last several years - gives Chrome like tabs (very handy for working with multiple files and folders) - this seems a little buggy in 10 - but the advantages still outweigh.

Adobe Audition CS6 froze - had to shut it down via task manager and then it took a PC restart for it to function properly again - then had solid day without a hiccup. Other Adobe CS6 products running fine.

I'm in no hurry to update my other computers - but will while the offer remains free and there is the best part of a year ahead for that.

Once installed win 10 shouldn't slow workflow as there isn't a great learning curve. For those nervous about change, seek out a few Youtube tutorials.

No one is running Windows 3.1 any more - have to move on at some stage - do it while it is free.

If anyone is determined to hang on to a XP hardware machine - buy a used licence for win 7 then see if it passes the requirement test for Win 10. If it doesn't - you will still have a good OS in Win 7.

Wow I did not think about that one!! Microsoft would then have to sneakily open ports in your computer without your knowledge wouldn't they? While I don't think they would swipe your credit card info but if they have done sloppy work on it, somebody else can come along maybe a software that mimics one of MS's update servers can have at it and everything else you don't want had?Da Debbil!!

You can't do a clean install with the free upgrade, only an upgrade.

no, it won't, but you can do a free upgrade from 8 to 8.1 first. Then do the upgrade to 10.
