I tend to fall hard for intelligent, cultured and talented men who are also a tad misunderstood. I do have certain hot buttons as far as looks are concerned, but I don't freak out if I don't find someone who has these exact characteristics.

I didn't go looking for anything when I fell, either time. It just happened, once because I wanted to save someone from themselves (and now I look back and just want to smack that niave little thing I used to be with a rolled up newspaper) and once because I finally found somewhere to be safe. I'm pretty self-sufficient, but once I found a place, a person, that I could let my guard down with, let myself relax enough to rest, that was it. We've had our moments, and some really bad years, but we've gotten through it, because we're both too damn stubborn and hardheaded to give up or in. C'est l'amour.

I'm going to steal most of my answer from one of my favorite authors because this passage has always stuck with me. In response to the question, "What do you look for in a woman?" -

"A lot of what I look for in people, I guess. Curiosity. Dislike for the easy answer. That in a good moment they can imagine what it's like to be an old woman or a small child. That they are more than what they do, or what they are."

The only thing I would add to that is laughter. Not only that we laugh at the same things, but that hearing her laugh changes my mood instantly. That's when I know I'm lost, head over heels. I can be in the worst mood, pissed off, depressed, and then she laughs and it all melts away and I can't help but laugh along with her.

After that, her face. If she's got what I call a 'merry face' I get that twinge in my anatomy.
