I open my Facebook page in the most desultory possible manner and I find row after row of names I don't recognize all wanting to be my "friend". Who are they? I see that some of them have other AH-er's as friends but are them among us? Are they someone I ought to recognize? How am I supposed to tell and if they aren't why are they sending me messages?

I mean . . . WTF?

I confirm anybody who wants to be my friend, but I warn them I don't do anything on there but confirm friends. I never even read what's there.

They're here already.

You're next! You're next, You're next...!

I must have a more restrictive definition of 'friend' or something. There are people I ignore, people I acknowledge, people I work with . . . But only people I trust come under the heading of 'friend' and there aren't a whole lot of those. I suppose a Facebook friend is some kind of acquaintance?

I only use facebook to find out info and pass on embarrassing pictures of kids I didn't really like in high school and college. It's not stalking, they friend requested me. You friend request me and you have an embarrassing pic, it's getting passed along to other people who dislike you too.

Snort! Being of the film-only generation, that hardly counts as much of a concern.

You must still be in high school.

Either that, or junior high. That's a decidedly junior high thing to do.

They're me!!!! :D

j/k...I have no idea either.

I use it to see what old friends are up to and to see what my old girlfriends look like now.

I still haven't figured out who all those people are who have generated "XXX wants to be your Facebook friend" e-mails I've received. I'm not on facebook, and don't plan to be.

I'm not on there either.

My family is scattered around the country.

FB is a terrific way to keep in touch with them and with many high school and college friends too.

Plus I can post pictures and video clips of my children and their latest adventures for the grandparents. Instant access to the grandkids. Happy people.

It's useful.

My family isn't that large, at least the parts of it I want to admit to. Most of them are right here in SoCal and the sister in the midwest is easy to get to. It's all these people who I didn't go to school with and have no idea what their real names are that have me confused.

I 'friend' everyone who asks me, but I check their bio first and who their 'friends' are. I seldom go to my page and when I do I try to respond to everyone in some fashion...I have met old buds from the neighborhood...from Elementary, Middle and High school...a couple of old girlfriends...even some dudes I served with in the Air Force...plus there's a bunch of Lit folks on there as well.

It's fun. :D

Happy trusting soul. I'm too paranoid for that. I want to know who that person is, claiming to be my friend. Who knows, they might want to borrow money!

Oh, don't be an old grumpy puss, Bear. Strangers are friends you haven't met yet. If they're asking to borrow money tell them sure, Vito will be around with the agreement and to show them his new Louisville Slugger...plus interest's 20% compounded daily. :D

Hey, Tom.

Can I borrow a couple hundred bucks?

I'll pay ya back fast. We can work out the interest in trade.

I am there to keep up with family. When someone I don’t know asks to be my friend, I look to see who they know, and if I do not know that other person well, I ignore the request. I think I have my privacy settings such that my family pictures are not out there for folk like La Roach to sneer at. We are who we are, and I love my family. I love to see the pictures of the get-togethers that I am too far away to attend, love the pictures of my nieces and nephew’s children. Love seeing old friends of which I have lost touch (thanks Marty )

Why sure, darlin', anything for a friend.

I'll take this one, Vito...go grab a cuppa joe and a donut...it'll be about two hours. ;)
