"The Left" is a very real term used to describe political affiliations in the US Congress which has become synonymous with "progressive", "Democrat" and "socialist." I don't deny the existence of 'the left' but its use on the Politics Board is very different and is almost always a lazy ad hominem term of abuse with no real understanding of what 'the left' really means in practical politics.

The UK has a genuine and substantial 'left' that is a significant part of our Labour party and until recently was in charge of setting their manifesto including policies that would really horrify Americans. Many were real socialist ideas.

The Labour party is trying to distance itself from 'the left' but they are still a major part of their membership who are resisting changes that might make Labour more electable.

The UK's Labour left would horrify the majority of Democrats who would see communism coming.

White supremacy in America was a functioning product of the Democratic Party from the very beginning of its Jeffersonian/Jacksonian roots. Today they get away with projecting it onto everyone else that opposes them. Today this is why most of the abortion clinics in America are located close to poor black neighborhoods, why they are supported and run by leftist democrats, and why the greatest percentage of their victims are babies of color. It's why, after 200 years of Democrat promises black people in America are still held captive in blue states and cities, confined by economic condition to shitty living quarters, marginal lives, and little opportunity for escape, and told metaphorically if they try to venture out they will be strung up in trees by evil white people, so they're always reminded to vote Democrat to stay safe. This while Democrats and their media hope that black and brown Americans never learn about the freedom and opportunity that awaits them outside of the Democrat Plantation, as so many more fortunate of their numbers have.
