White Prilivege.

I was on another website, and we were discussing a book called Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack, by some woman I forgot her name, but she basically said throughout this whole book that she is privilege because she is white, and others whites are as well.

So my question do y'all agree with this, and others that on the subject of white privilege. I would also like to suggest that people might need to look up on that term before commenting.

There are no free rides for whites, mostly cuz whites cut no slack for other whites. That is, while we discount minorities as useless Gomers, we see other whites as the real threat.

Whites are privileged in some other countries, but it's minorities that are privileged in the U.S.

I think that as a group, white people have benefitted from not making waves in the sense that if they lived in a predominantly white community they didn't cause comment and controversy by their mere presence and differences.

Blacks also benefitted from the same in their communities. Asians benefit from the same in their communities.

So privilege depends on context. A white person in a predominantly white community will benefit from fitting in better and challenging fewer social norms on the basis of race and general custom.

The math shifts when you see there's more white "mainstream" than enclave.

So overall since "white" was the predominant color, they had the predominant privilege.

I think a smart, talented ethnically diverse person has a better shot in today's world than a dumb, useless white person. All things being equal though, you benefit from being part of a community's majority than a community's minority.

Rising tides lift all boats and I think the tide has risen, not in the minds of all individuals, but at least in the law and in social tolerance and even embrace of cultural and racial diversity.
