Which story is true?

STORY ONE

I was once caught smuggling gold to Korea for a mafia-style outfit run by Arabs. I was arrested in Tokyo and spent a night in jail there.

STORY TWO

I can hold a fluent conversation in Mandarin.
Ni hao ma?
Wo hen hao. Ni ne?

The answer is STORY ONE. Believe it or not just about all foreign students living in Taipei in the 1980s were being recruited into this activity. The "organisers" would bail you out of jail, fly you back to Hong Kong or some other major city. The next day you would try for Soeul again. I was in Taiwan learning Mandarin. Because I was engaging in Story One type activities, sadly, fluency in Mandarin was never achieved. Naa..didn't really have an aptitude for languages anyway. I know some bad bad words that would make Chinese hookers blush though.
