For a long time I thought that the Olympians would be the best gods to have, but they're so capricious.

There are the Toltec deities, cool but violent and uncaring. I think they would be the worst.

Anyone have a religion you wish was the ‘real’ one?

~Edit~
I'd like to amend my 'worst gods' comment. I think the Cthulhu mythos would be the worst to have.

If it were somehow in our national interests to worship Salma Hayek, I'd be set.

There are the sexy-girl deities, cool but sexy and sweet as hell. I think they would be the down right nicest.

If Bhudda (I know I didn't spell it right) were real- that would be cool.

I myself worship the Norse gods and Loki is my patron god. For any of those that wonder why I follow Loki check this site out. http://loki.ragnarokr.com/pipindex.htm

Please read what is under Loki, the Unsung Hero or the Great Surt Conspiracy Theory after reading that and some other stuff on this site I don't believe Loki is as evil as the stories say. I am working on a web site of my own and I am going to go into more detail about why I favor Loki.

amen she is super sexy.... I was gonna say socialism....

No religion that I can think of off the top of my head would be ideal for me.

The Christian idea of heaven (vague though it is) would be nice, but there is always hell for, depending on who you ask, those who don't go to church on Sundays to those who are mass baby-raping serial killers.

The Greek and Norse gods are too fickle and prone to do nasty things to mortals with little provocation. No thanks.

Buddhism involves too much tiresome reincartion. I'd get pretty bored.

And if you think about it, a major requirement for any belief system is believing in it, which I technically could not do, being an atheist. :)

If Athena appeared and suddenly turned your friend into a spider, would you have any problem believing in her?

That's like saying, "A major requirement of gravity is you believing in it." If something exists, whether you believe in it or not is immaterial to its existing.

The core belief in Buddhism, if you want to call it a religion...instead of a philosophy, is that everything as you know it is an illusion. Buddha also was a firm believer that suffering made you a better person, and that moderation was the key to everything.

Doesn't sound so bad. :)

That's a pretty good one. However, as Pyper stated, you also have to live over and over again - sometimes as unsavory critters - that doesn't sound too keen.

Psssst, Never.

It was a joke. :)

I am a god.
So therefore, I don't have to worry about the whole issue of believing, since my beliefs are ratified every time I look in the mirror.

The one religion that is real is the one who knows who is their QUEEN!....................ME.:D

Another problem with most religions is that the require you to worship your maker or other gods as higher beings. I refuse to acknowledge any being as anything other than an equal to myself, so I wouldn't get along very well with that.

Actually, Buddhist believe in rebirth. They don't believe in a soul, and don't believe in time having meaning when it comes to rebirth. So you could die, and end up being "reborn" 1000 years ago, 4000 years from now, or at the same time you were originally born. Very enlightening stuff.

You tell me you’re an atheist every time we talk about religions, how was I supposed to know you were joking around this time?

Yes, I know I’m being humorless. I’m sorry. I misunderstood the tone of your post. I’m not in a good mood right now. My computer has decided it doesn’t want to play sound and I’ve spent the last three hours trying to fix it. Again, sorry.

I suppose as long as you see all plants and animals as being equal to yourself that’s a valid point.
