Ok, first thing first. DOAS is a play. Fine. Arent you giddy?

1984 is considered to have American themes.

Mary Shelly was female. Look it up snookums.

Yeah but nobody considers it to be an American Novel.

Okay, I'll give you a half an apology on that one, I figured you meant Percy. But Mary Shelley was still British, as was Orwell,Death Of A Salesman is still a play, and you are still busted.

Mary Shelly wasn't an American author.

ok, replace it with Call of the Wild by London or Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway.

Q, you haven't busted anything.

Call of the Wild better than The Sound and the Fury, The Crying of lot 49, The Scarlett Letter, Huckleberry Finn, The Great Gatsby?

I don't think you have very good taste.

Dude, all you've proven there is that after three or four bad guesses you can name five American novels. If you've got a degree in American Literature then I'm Davy Crockett.

My favourite American novel is the Brothers Karamazov.

Well, The Defense is also of great American value. That Nabokov, what a Yank!

I guess in this vein that Anna Karenina is my favorite American novel.

I said female authors, not American female authors.

You were specifically asked about American female authors.

Why don't you answer that question?

weevil, you joined the list.

Q, as for female American authors (which people seem to be obsessing about in this thread), I like Toni Morrison.

Yeah, Goethe bought the shop when he sailed over on the Mayflower.

How can I be condescending on this topic? You're the one with the Masters in Literature. I only took 1 literature class in undergrad unless you count all the German literature classes I took as part of my German degree.

What do you think about female American authors and which do you think have had the greatest impact on American literature?

Yes, that question would have confused me too:rolleyes:
