Bratcat, this happened to me. He left the week of Thanksgiving, and I thought that was extremely tacky and selfish.

I don't know, the little ones would probably appreciate it if the family were all together for the holidays though. That's what I thought. It made things very depressing and hard to keep a happy face on for them. I mean he left right before Thanksgiving. I already shopped for all that food, and now 1/2 the people weren't going to be there. (His side of the family)

But either way it's not easy. It's only another month or so, I'd wait if you can stand it.

After school is out for the year would seem to me to be a good time. That way they have the summer to digest it and there would be plenty of time for a parent to talk with them about what is going on. They know you are unhappy if you are.

This is what I am going thru also right now Bratcat. But to tell you the truth. I want out of here as soon as it is possible. Since my hubby doesn't even seem to notice our child. He even doesn't expect to have to deal with him after we are official separated (moved out). And he even said that we (our son and I) should go to my parents place for Christmas...which is a day drive away.

Also, when you over hear him talking to a friend...saying that you hope to have them out by Christmas. Then you know the true feelings.

With us...it is usually only our son and I that celebrate the holidays...since he just sees it as just another day.

I know that it would be hard on my son but when he says things like..."why doesn't daddy do things with me" "daddy why don't you ever take me"...then you wonder if it might be a better idea to be out...and maybe happier around your child.

I know my mind has been debating this for a long time. But personally for me...I know that I wont be able to financial move till after the New Year. I personally couldn't wait until June when my son is out of school...

I'm going through something similiar at the moment.

My ex-hubastard just filed on me - my lawyer advised me to let him, so he'd have to pay the filing fee - and our eleven year anniversary is in a week. lol I thought that timing was rather ironic.

As for the holiday's and special occasion's I'm doing my best for our son to maintain what he's had his entire life, with some alterations of course. For Halloween we shared trick or treating, I took him for an hour then handed him over to his father for another hour. I expect that Thanksgiving will be spent with me and my family because his family rarely does anything for it. As for Christmas I'm hoping that we'll at least be able to tolerate one another so that he may come over for the morning and watch our child open his presents. That might be hoping for a lil too much
But I'll do anything for my son, and if that means putting up with his father and pretending I'm enjoying it, that's what it will be.

No time is a good time for the kids to have their parents seperate honestly. If you feel as though your home will be filled with animosity, resentment and anger during the next month, I don't think it is for the best to stay until after the holiday's. Whether it's voiced or not, kids sense hostility and can see from body language that things are not great.

Me, me, me...how's the kids doin'?

Have they picked up on what's going to happen? Any unexplained outbursts? Nightmares? Excessive clinging? They're pretty sensitive to picking up what you guys are up to, my son did. This year or next, will still crush them, honesty is the best policy. Let them see that you two can be civil, and that it doesn't mean you love them less. You're also gonna get the standard, "It's something we did to cause daddy/mommy to leave!" It's gonna be like a grenade, it'll hurt everyone around you. Be strong, and sure!

I am ok with leaving. He is a wonderful father...but we are not good for each other as a couple. NOW, tho...he thinks that by spending "time" just the two of us over the next two weeks, we will miraculously bond. hmmm...after 7-8 years of unbonding, I think it will take lots longer than two weeks.

Sounds like you have made up your mind. In that case, two weeks or two years isn't going to help rebuild your marriage.
