Which category does my story belong in?

I'm working on a non-con story that also happens to be a fan fiction. Where should I put it?

I apologize if there's a more appropriate thread for this question. I'm new to the forum aspect of this site.

Usually any version of fan fiction means that it should be in that category. If the story involves incest as well, that might trump the fan fiction aspect, but for all other versions - fan fiction should be the best category.

As for where to ask this or similar questions? This forum is acceptable but you might get a faster response in the Authors' Hangout.

How does the site decide what categories take precedence when a story could be in multiple ones? Is it just whatever category feels like the most important aspect of a given story?

"The site"? No. Laurel makes the decisions.

There is a pecking order. Incest in a story trumps any other category. Gay Male and Anal are also difficult in any other category.

Novels and Novellas can be anything but it would be sensible to warn readers if the story is Incest, Gay Male or unusual fetishes for examples.

This essay gives a reasonable set of definitions about the suitability of the various categories:

But the only arbiter is Laurel. If she changes the category you suggested all you can do is send her a PM to query the change IF you think she is wrong.

There have been many discussions about which categories are correct for which story. It is very easy to write a story that doesn't really fit a single one of Literotica's categories. Authors just have to make their best guess and hope Laurel agrees.

Mixing Fan-fic with non-consent is an iffy proposition for getting a story accepted at Lit.

Ogg is correct that Fan Fiction/Celebrity usually trumps all other categories -- because of the automatic disclaimer in that Category, I think. Add Non-consent and you run into potential legal troubles; Lit generally rejects stories with potential legal troubles.

I'll keep that in mind. I don't intend to malign any real people, however, or even canon characters. The story I have in mind involves original characters in an established universe. Hopefully it won't be unacceptable.

That's less likely to be an issue than NC stories about real people, and also less likely to be automatically filed in Celebrity. If memory serves, I've seen several WoW-based stories end up in Sci-Fi/Fantasy.
