I was reading an article today about how the US Army is building bridge supports in Kuwait to take on their invasion and march to Bagdhad.

Apparently, the way to defend Bagdhad is to booby-trap the oil wells near Kuwait, and bomb the dams on the Tigris and Euphrates south of the city to flood-force the invaders into a delta between the rivers as you can see in the graphic...then gas them.

Those who make it through that expect a 30% kill rate in house to house fighting...so we should expect to see about 30,000- 60,000 Americans going home in body bags.

Gee. I guess that will happen since you're, like, the only one who knows this.

That's what both sides are preparing for.

It's just a question of how many get killed, not if there will be losses.

Wow. Who needs the Pentagon? Maybe we should get rid of the Joint Chiefs and put Lance in charge. He is the gawd of all-knowing military wisdom.

I 'm sure Saddam will blow up his entire infrastructure and then blame it on Americans.

LOL:D Lance is an expert on everything, NASA, American Foreign Policy and on and on. He also wouldnt give a damn if there were 30000 thousand American Deaths..........

Sounds like wishful thinking on your part...I am sure it will make very happy to see american soldiers die...you should be quite proud of the true humanitarian you are...

Not likely. People are expecting the Iraqi citizens to put up a fight.

We are going into an impoverished and victimized nation. You make it sound we are telling Texans to give up the firearms.

I read an article that said that the Army Corps of Engineers were building highways in Afghanistan. 30,000 to 60,000 American Soldiers will die because the US military obviously plans on using these highways to attack Iraq.

Oh yeah, I also read an article in the local paper that says that the Army Corps of Engineers is also planning on renovating the earthen dam on the resevoir next to us. 30,000 to 60,000 American Soldiers will be killed in Iraq because they didn't have enough earthen dams with them.

U.S. building foundation for desert war

KUWAIT CITY -

If war comes, the main U.S. invasion force will thrust into Iraq from Kuwait, striking out across the muddy Mesopotamian region, with its latticework of irrigation canals and farm paddies, between the legendary Euphrates and Tigris rivers.

By blowing up a series of dams near Baghdad, Saddam's troops could send a wall of water rushing down the southern approaches to the capital in an attempt to stall the advancing army and channel it into a predetermined "kill zone," where Iraqi troops could then use chemical or biological weapons.

In a modern war, where Iraqi troops will be outgunned and out-trained and can expect to be attacked with satellite-guided smart bombs, Saddam's soldiers may well turn to the old and tested military traditions of the past.

U.S. analysts and military planners have long suspected Saddam's chief strategy will be to try to slow the advance of the invading force while drawing it into a potentially deadly and difficult urban war.

Urban combat appeals to Iraqi defenders because it can dramatically reduce the U.S. military's high-tech advantage, while exposing American troops to higher casualties.

Iraq's army is said to have already established fortified fighting positions in two defensive rings around Baghdad, including dug-in emplacements for tanks and other heavy equipment located near schools and mosques.

Saddam appears to be counting on the fact that in a bloody street battle, U.S. troops could incur casualty rates as high as 30% of their attacking force.

In PGW1 the USA had 20,000 body bags on tap, but ony used 1400 or so.

I think this time it'll be more simply because they'll be rolling ground troops and going in to Iraq instead of chasing the Republicans out of Kuwait.

How much more and over what time period...who knows?

US involvement in Vietnam started as a few observers with the CIA.

Of this 30,000 to 60,000 casualties, how many of them will be the sons of the rich oil barons and defense contractors, who are the only Americans that will benefit from this war?

I'm guessing none.

You're guessing correctly of course.

Used to be that American Presidents were war heroes and men of valour...Clinton & Bush2 both suckholed their way out of it.

If that were still true, then Colin Powell would be the President. Americans always used to make their conquering generals into Presidents.

n/a

Why the war talk?

There will be no invasion.

The US have shot themselves in the foot again.

They risk causing more rifts through the UN and NATO as well as an unstable future throughout the world.

It is political suicide. Everyday things become tougher for them to gain support.

Another Bush cops a Saddam back hander.

Got to give the mad fuck some credit. He seems to thumb his nose well, divide opinion and well, the amount of people who protested around the globe on the weekend and before shows just how much of a fucking idiot Bush is.

Public opinion is what gains pollies votes.

They go in and that public opinion will grow even more.

Bush may liberate Iraq but at the cost of his own political future and his party? Somehow I think the UN will run things from here.

Most American presidents have been shitheads. This will be the first and final time I'll agree with George Will: We shouldn't have a blanket holiday for them.

Hmmmm.........not so many Ahmerkins in here, eh?

They talk a good war, but when it comes down to dying...
