Where do you write?

For those of you that mention using a phone or pen and paper I can't imagine doing that. I do have and have used a laptop but don't like it. I find too many key mistakes and constantly having to go back and edit. Not my fav.

.

To each their own. Writing on my phone is either raw first draft or editing. I have know very few people who write from start to finish on a smartphone.

Mhmm, mhmm. Are you sure you don't write every full moon with the help of The Fae who are known for accepting trodden-on squirrels as sacrifice? Or is that some other Hypoxia?
Full moons here are usually obscured by atmosphere and any wee little Fae have been devoured by mantids. I've only myself to blame for vascillation.

Having said that I'm another cluttered-study writer, I remembered that when my father died it fell to my sister and I to clear out his cluttered study. My father was also a writer. It's probably where my sister and I acquired our vice. But I remember thinking 'How did he accumulate all this stuff? And why?' And now my study is as bad as his was. Oh well .... :)

Wherever I can. It's one reason I use Google Docs. Phone, iPad, computer at home or a sneaky couple of paragraphs at work... I can move easily from one item to another.

Final edit is always on a laptop at home.

What movies do you watch while you work? I can't seem to stand having movies on for background noise anymore. I've been listening to layered brown noise on youtube.

Usually movies I have watched or seen on TV so often that they are just noise in the back ground... Almost any of the Marvel movies.

I also listen to music. Not at the same time as a movie though. ;)

Oh wow you can write a whole first draft on your phone! Wow thats impressive in my opinion I cant quite do anything other than jot down ideas on my phone.

My writing space is a crude mix of study and a kid's playroom, with my computer desk halfway buried by a metric fuckton of Transformers toys. :) I use a simple desktop PC for work, with a nice, bright widescreen monitor and headphones for the text-to-speech/screen reader software I'm using.

I don't have a smart phone. On purpose. Might have something to do with the ability to produce a large volume of stories. I'm not playing on a smart phone.

I write anywhere, at home, at work, during classes, in the car, at Dunkin Donuts and in the check out line at the supermarket. I wrote a chapter on an airplane. Sometimes I wake up during the night and write in bed. I have written some very good stuff while on the toilet.

Quality work happens on the toilet some of my best writing was on top of legs that have fallen asleep.

I think for me its more of a feedback, I like buttons rather than touch screen when it comes to writing. However, I applaud your tenacity to sticking with what you like!

Thank you!

I started in the Palm PDA era so I have had a LOT of practice.

Gosh I remember hitting a single button four times to get one letter lol.

Its a tool to take advantage of otherwise lost time. To each their own. I don't do it as much as I now work form home and am not stuck waiting around a lot like I used to be. To each their own.

Where do you write? Where do you prefer to write? Hunched over a desk or sitting on the floor or in a submarine?

At the desk in my bedroom, technically on a laptop but it has a secondary screen and I write on a separate keyboard so it might as well be a desktop for all intents and purposes, with the added benefit of being able to take it with me if I need to, although I hardly do.

Still living with my parents so there aren't many other places I could write without getting disturbed, and even in my room there's the occasional head peeking around the door or someone yelling up the stairs. Beats writing in the living room though, where there's usually a TV on and people talking and walking around. I'm very easily distracted so I need the peace and quiet to focus.

I've done some editing (both for myself and others) while downstairs last summer when it was too hot upstairs to breathe, and it wasn't exactly ideal but it worked. Writing proved nearly impossible though, especially with the whole family seeking shelter from the heat on the lowest floor.

Funny how that works. My mother is a hoarder by nature, so was my grandmother, and now that my mom is sick I know I'll be the one cleaning out her house. I try to declutter my own stuff all the time and do a pretty good job of it except with books.. I have way too many books. Books that are dusty and worn and too fragile to pick up. I really need to find good homes for them... but I feel like I need them. When I eventually do sort them they'll probably crush me. That's how I wanted to go out anyway. Book avalanche.

When I write in public all I can think about is "man my screen is dirty. my whole laptop is dirty. is everyone else seeing how dirty my laptop is?? how is it this dirty?" and then i'm googling how to clean various parts of my laptop. I wish this had only happened once. It's more like three times.

I have essential tremors. Small buttons don't work with me.

I have 'em too. Was in line the other day after holding a gallon of milk for about ten minutes in a crowded market. Physical and emotional stress plus all the coffee I downed that day.. paying was difficult. Plus, I like to pay with exact change because I am an asshole.

I am ambisinistrous and have been since birth. I am clumsy and uncoordinated with either hand. My brother (and sister) were ambidextrous. My brother could create two different drawings simultaneously using both hands. I have difficulty producing a recognisable picture of anything.

I have to use a full-size keyboard because even with that I make errors. Anything smaller comes out as gibberish.
