Fear of flying came up this morning on the GB
When was the last time you flew on a commercial airline?
Tell us.

I miss monthly flights to Sacramento. Not the being at the airport part or the being on the airplane part, but the having something to look forward to part.

I was scheduled to board a plane today. About two minutes ago.

It's not so much that I am afraid of flying...I flew in a Helicopter once if you call that flying...straight up an back down.

It's just that every time I do some thing like that all hell breaks lose, something goes wrong or screws up or blows out ect.

Don't need the stress!

1998.

No fear of it, just hate the assholes involved along the way. And that was before the Stasi took over gate access.

It was just too long and complicated a process, every step of the way, from searching for flights and buying tickets to getting baggage at the end. One headache after another.

I figured out that for at least some of the trips, I could make it by car in almost less time overall.

Spain, a couple of years back, to visit pater.

Oh, and American airports are grim. Your security are just arseholes. Not only do they act like abusive prison guards, but they seem oblivious to gaping holes in their systems. Where the fuck do they find these arseholes?

Don't get me started. They seem to go out of their way to recruit absolute dick heads.

And I was last on a plane in February. Just as they started asking "have you been to China in the last two weeks?"

I used to go OS a couple of times a year but can't see that happening for at least 6 months. In Oz I live on a remote property, miles from anywhere, nearest sealed road is about 95 miles away. We do have a small plane to get around with, which is handy though I have given up flying it myself (eyes are too old).

Not since the 911 Islamic terrorist event

We decided that the friendly skies are not friendly anymore. Now that viruses from China and other breading grounds of disease are globalized I have no interest in being stuck on a plane with who knows who that has who knows what. All done with cruise ships too.

breading grounds? would that be like flat breads or risen doughs?

Paradise would be living in the middle of nowhere, with a plane. If I win the lottery you would have to know my tail number to ever find me.

End of January

 When coronavirus seemed like a very far away thing.

I was a little nervous about it, aware that I was test driving one of its prime transmission devices. I looked at everyone a little differently, even then.

Two days later I held and comforted my sick one year old grandson for most of an afternoon at his sister's birthday party. She'd been sick the week before. My father-in-law was just getting over two weeks of 'bad flu'. Two days after the party, I got a scratchy throat, and a LOT of congestion, and then a fever that wouldn't go away for two weeks. My daughter had a sore throat for two days. She was also on the plane and at the party. My wife carried on as normal. Viruses are picky like that.

By then things were in full pandemic mode, except of course for MAGAworld.

I'm guessing most of my family has antibodies, but the pandemic day is still quite young.

Stay safe out there, if not for yourself, for your loved ones.
