I was just wondering you fellas' opinion and why it was posted.

It looks to me like there is a higher percentage of apprehensions/crossings in that one sector. But I don't really know what the significance of that is.

How do you secure a border? People come on airplanes and boats, they overstay visas, they find 1,000 or more ways to get here. Talking about securing the border is just verbiage. The Border Patrol is really a waste of tax money. Its just for show.

Furthermore, most immmigrants are legals. Obviously exact numbers aren't known, but some estimates say that legals outnumber illegals 2 to 1. Some neo-cons are actually talking about increasing the number of legals, when we already have 2 million or so coming every single year. Limbaugh called for more H1 visas.

Its pretty much over in terms of reducing any of this. We need to start planning more infrastructure to accomdate the massive population growth that is coming.

I thought it was interesting that the GAO had a report showing the facts and stats behind the border being insecure, and therefor providing a basis for demanding "border security before accepting the Obama amnesty".

But after reading through some it and skimming the rest that chart that shows precisely the opposite stuck out. So in reality, or at least the reality contained within the OP's posted GAO report, there is no reason to demand increased border security. As you noted, the number of apprehensions/crossings has decreased 69% in recent years.

So, I guess it is time to get on with the conversation about amnesty, and drop the border security conversation.
