When It's Good, It's So So Good

You mean there are babies out there that aren't ugly? They all seem to me like they've been dropped on their faces. Not to mention their strange proportions, and not being able to stay sitting up without support of some sort.

Thank you for inviting me to join in, Trix. I do have a few favorites to share. This will be a good exercise for me because I'm not very good at articulating my emotions.

I think I am an empath. I feel things very intensely on the inside, but unlike a writer, I don't have to get it out in words. I actually thrive on the intensity of the emotions inside. This makes me a good audience, aye? Funny how that works out.

Anyhow, the first thing that comes to mind is a song written by Stevie Nicks. Ironically, the name of it is "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?"

Has anyone ever written anything for you?
In all your darkest hours have you ever heard me sing?
Listen to me now, you know I'd rather be alone
Than be without you, don't you know

Has anyone ever given anything to you?
in your darkest hours, did you ever give it back?
Well, I have, I have given that to you
If it's all I ever do this is your song

And the rain comes down
There's no pain and there's no doubt
It was easy to say, I believed in you everyday
If not for me then do it for the world

Has anyone ever written anything for you?
And in your darkest sorrow did you ever hear me sing?
Listen to me now you know I'd rather be alone
Than be without you, don't you know

So, if not for me, then do it for yourself
If not for me, then do it for the world

The words are so touching, for me, because the entire song is about her giving it as a gift to another. The person she wrote it for was in great pain and had suffered a great loss. She feels his pain so deeply in return. It's like she knows she can't do anything to take the pain away, so she just gives herself, her love, and her heart instead in the words, and she does it in a way where there is no other meaning to the song other than...this is for you.

The line "you know I'd rather be alone than be without you" can take on so many meanings and is absolutely poignant. How does one really take in the depth of meaning in that line?

At the end of her live version, she says "and sometimes they ask her about the men in her life...and she says, as difficult as it has been, they are poets, and yet they are priests of nothing, but they are legends."

Stevie Nicks is beautiful. She has an amazing and unique voice.

But she is a poet, first and foremost, and because of that, she is a legend.

I will find some poetry to share next that is not in lyrics form.

Sorry about all the "mushy" stuff, P-poet. I know that's not your style. And, for the record, I've had to look up many of your words. You're much more brilliant than you'd like to claim, sir. ;)

Love,
That's not a song I'm familiar with, I'll see if I can hunt it down, give it a listen.
The line, I'd rather be alone, than be without you, is an interesting statement to me. The loneliest feeling is that of being alone when you're with someone, and to me is more painful than actually being alone. So here it implies the depth of feeling that you convey.
Nice share.

You make them sound like drunks or the extremely old, lol.
Never saw a baby face I couldn't love. Drunks on the other hand I've had my fill of.

Just Keep Swimming

Courage, Anne Sexton

It is n the small things we see it.
The child's first step,
as awesome as an earthquake.
The first time you rode a bike,
wallowing up the sidewalk.
The first spanking when your heart
went on a journey all alone.
When they called you crybaby
or poor or fatty or crazy
and made you into an alien,
you drank their acid
and concealed it.

Later,
If you faced the death of bombs and bullets
you did not do it with a banner,
you did it with only a hat to
cover your heart.
You did not fondle the weakness inside you
though it was there.
Your courage was a small coal
that you kept swallowing.
If your buddy saved you
and died himself in so doing,
then his courage was not courage,
it was love; love as simple as shaving soap.

Later,
if you have endured a great despair,
then you did it alone,
getting a transfusion from the fire,
picking the scabs off your heart,
then wringing it out like a sock.
Next, my kinsman, you powdered your sorrow,
you gave it a back rub
and then covered it with a blanket
and after it had slept a while
it woke to the wings of roses
and was transformed.

Later,
when you face old age and its natural conclusion
your courage will still be shown in the little ways,
each spring will be a sword you'll sharpen,
those you love will live in a fever of love,
and you'll bargain with the calendar
and at the last moment
when death opens the back door
you'll put on your carpet slippers
and stride out.

I like this one because sometimes it is the little moments of everyday living that are the hardest to endure and it takes that coal of courage to make that first step out of the bedroom in the morning.

Alone ~ Maya Angelou

Lying, thinking
Last night
How to find my soul a home
Where water is not thirsty
And bread loaf is not stone
I came up with one thing
And I don't believe I'm wrong
That nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

There are some millionaires
With money they can't use
Their wives run round like banshees
Their children sing the blues
They've got expensive doctors
To cure their hearts of stone.
But nobody
No, nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Now if you listen closely
I'll tell you what I know
Storm clouds are gathering
The wind is gonna blow
The race of man is suffering
And I can hear the moan,
'Cause nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

We come into this world alone, and we die alone, but there does not seem to be a second in between that we aren't searching for belonging, longing for connectedness in some form or another.

Yup, I agree. I like Maya's stuff a lot. Reminds me of my neighbor. Real, honest, raw but not bitter. Lovely funny woman, both of them.

So so fun

8 Miles Wide, Storm Large

all of my life
I've never fit
but I won't complain and I won't quit
I am enormous
get used to it
everyone tells me I'm too much
maybe it's just you're not enough for me
can't you see
I'm the kind of the woman I'm supposed to be

[chorus]
my vagina is 8 miles wide
absolutely everyone can come inside
if you're ever frightened just run and hide
my vagina is 8 miles wide

tell me what is womanly to you
strong but not too much of a brute
it's cool if she's powerful
but way better if she's cute
for all of us girls who don't fit in
I say go Amazonian
you can be a kick-ass bruiser
and be feminine

[chorus]

now I am not loose and I'm not a whore
this is a metaphor for
my super vigantastically mystical feminine goddess core
and I hate it when women make that noise
that we don't need daddies, men or boys
even the hard-core dykes like
cock-shaped sex toys

[bridge]
my vagina
it's universal
like a penis
but reversible
come on in, the water's fine
it's not my vagina
it's our vagina

[harmony chorus]
[just the boys]
[everyone]

wide
wide
vigantic
vigantic
vigantic
a big big love
vigantic
vigantic
vigantic
a big big love

Clever and funny girl power without being angry or anti-men. What's not to love.

Yodaesque dick head would not be sense to have either, I think.

btw, you may be running afoul of the copyright laws by posting things in entirety, and the RI space space A space A is one greedy MFer

Yoda stern master, and head more testicle like than dick like.

Will be more circumspect in posting other's materials. But doesn't copyright infringement have to do more with the loss of income or use for personal gain...
Will look into it more.

Ye gads, what a muddy pit of vague legalese copyright is.

Still, I think the usage is good. I'm giving full credit and offering opinions on favorite works of poetry in both traditional and non-traditional formats.
I'm not profiting financially in anyway or harming someone else's profit.
I'd say this would be more in the way of giving publicity to poets/lyricists, and their works that others may be unaware of.

From all I could gather copyright law comes down to, no harm no foul. I see no harm here.

If anyone else sees it differently, I'd be interested to hear another take on it.

Here's my take.
Sue me, and good luck with that!
I'll leave my '73 dodge dart on the curb in case you win.
The keys are on the floor.
Damn i miss limewire
Oops

It is, it is set up that way, technically anything posted is supposed to be copyrighted (unless they changed the law again), however you as an individual have little defense without lawyers.
Everything posted in "bad" is pre 1923. Public domain.

Never heard of it. Picked it up from my best friend. Him and his partner talk in code and have to translate for me.

TBH English has TDM TLAs, but A2D, amirite? BTW, ADIDAS, if anyone cares.

Even the youtube music videos you post on the other thread are copyrighted. Nobody cares. We'll just pretend we're all in Sweden. Rock on, Mr. Mozart.

Thank you Tsotha and P-poet. That was very kind.

I like her too. Can we keep her?

I'm still available!

I actually tried to make my home over in the BDSM forum, but for some reason, the welcome wasn't near as warm as it has been here.

Well, this girl is no fighter and I am no fool. I go where I'm wanted. Of course you can keep me! ;)
