Is your mind made up in the first few sentances or do you consider each post? Do you value those with a different view or do you think that they are stupid, ill informed or a wack job? Do you have to "like" a poster to value their ideas? Just trying to get a fel for this place....

I try to consider each post and if the person has an opposing view to my own it depends on how they express it as to how I take it or think about it.

I don't always have to like the person to value their ideas, but over time you get a sense for who happens to be complete idiots and how they very rarely offer anything of substance or of importance. :)

Welcome to lit Heavenly Body!

Well, I consider each post before posting.

There are times and issues wherein I am rock solid and don't budge.

Then, there are issues that I can learn and change my opinion on.

Now, you may get a bunch of replies to this thread, but frankly, you will learn by reading people's post how open they are to different ideas or if they view debate as a fun way to flex their mental muscles.

:)

i have learned to listen to both side after seeing too many courtroom drama (ala Dateline etc)

All too often you here one side and can't imagine how the other side could be anything but guilty...so you decide

and then you hear the other side

I'd hate to be a juror

The only way to get a "feel" for the place is to read, post, read, post, etc.

I think most of us have certain threadstarters we open and read just about everytime because we learn to expect certain things from them...and it's for that exact same reason why we don't open others.

It's just a process. So many of us here and it takes time to get to know who we are.

Welcome.:rose:

Thanks for the welcome kitty.

Miss Taken....I am just interested in the responses. I have read a lot of threads and just wondered is all. I like to hear different views and this is a chance to seek out those people from whom I could learn.

Thanks for answering and yes I have been posting. Just thought I would see who answers this and how. Although I appreciate that this is proably the gazillionith time some one has asked this question it helps me get to know those who would be most likely to exchange their views rather then insult and dismiss an opposing idea. Again thanks for taking the time to answer JL and JB.
