When are sex workers going to be treated with respect?

What service is more desire or highly prized than that provided by sex workers? Whether it be physical intimacy or making a video to allow one to imagine the pleasures of physical intimacy, isn't the sex worker's service the one many people desire the most? Yet, we are treated like pariahs or as untouchables that most people act embarrassed to be associated with. This truly needs to change. Women and men, working as sex workers and doing so with skill and talent, deserve far more respect for the work they do. I am proud to be a sex worker. And I truly love my job. I just wish society would stop acting like I should be ashamed of doing the thing that it so desperately desires.

Agree with you one hundred percent. You may have heard of a group called COYOTE (for "Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics") that has been championing this cause for a long time. Several European countries have already moved toward making sex workers more respected and protected. But since we've driven it underground in the US, it's become the domain of pimps and dishonest cops who will look the other way for a cash consideration.

In the US I'm also seeing assumptions about human trafficking being a major source of sex workers. And, therefore, sex workers need to be protected/removed from that work.

Clearly this mindset doesn't factor in the workers who choose to do it.

You are asking for respect, and that can never be asked for, it has to be earned.

Even something as going into court and being before a judge, that judge is respected because of its not a position that just takes anyone who happens along, but a very long process to become one. Yet if they happen to do something stupid, like using a penis-pump during a murder trial as one judge was doing, all respect for that judge is instantly lost, so there is no double standard at play here.

But that segues into another fact...

As my girlfriend says, "if you want a real man, then start with being a real woman".

That is true as well. She gets a lot of compliments because she dresses in skirts and dresses most of the time. But again, there is no double-standard.

If a man posts a photo of his wife in revealing, but tasteful clothing, the comments on this board will be rather genteel and respectable, but the comments get more lewd if he was to post the exact same wife in very slutty clothing. That is because people are treated how they are dressed.

In my own life, if my girlfriend dresses kind of naughty and revealing, and we go to a club, we will probably have rough, down-and-dirty sex when we get home, yet if she is wearing something more classy and elegant; we probably will make-love; to which there is a vast difference between the two types of sex.

What your post suggests is; you want to do what you want, and yet be given respect; and culture simply does not operate on an entitlement basis.

That is not to say that sex work is "bad", its just by its very nature, not a respected trade. In that way, it is no different than being a person that collects trash. My great uncle was the latter, and died a multi-millionaire because doing what other people won't do, can be very lucrative.

Don't know where you are located but here in the U.S. ALL things operate very much on an ENTITLEMENT BASIS and our culture here is very much based on the same.

If you got money, you are preferred over someone who has NO MONEY.

But you are not as welcomed as someone who has much more money than you.

And if you both got the same money then it goes to skin color for the tie breaker...
the lighter you are--,the brighter things look for ya.

During the shutdown, many people had time to realize they hate their jobs, so they quit. That was the beginning of a permanent economic contraction. As the economy contracts more, there will be less sex work. It may become somewhat less prosecuted over the next few years, but the bigger changes are decades ahead as values and beliefs change by generation.

The US is becoming more and more restrictive as religious fanatics take over the country and turn it into 1400s Afghanistan. Eventually women will not even be allowed on the street without being covered completely. Paying someone for sex is now a felony in Texas. Abortion and birth control are completely outlawed. Welcome to the USSA.

Really?

Mama Lama; what is with all the false drama?

Insert rolling of the eyes here.

When will sex workers get respect? Not any time soon, other changes are required first.

Most important is that the trade should be legalized. It is instructive to examine countries where that has happened. New Zealand is the freest from all regulation treating it like any other job, but Australia is the market I know best. Here in the Eastern states sex work is legal and that has had some interesting side effects:

1 The police no longer have capacity to prosecute so the workers do not have to pay them off or provide freebies.

2 Without prosecutions the workers became anonymous, no publicity, therefore no risk of damage to personal reputation.

3 The increased anonymity encouraged more people to consider sex work as an option. Greater numbers in the business caused prices to fall through competition.

4 Because more people were willing to do sex work and at more modest prices, trafficking recruits became unprofitable and has largely faded away.

5 One quirk in our immigration law is that foreigners on student visas are only allowed to work 14 hours/week in paid employment. 14 hours sex work pays much better than 14 hours retail or waiting tables, so many workers are students.

6 Some workers in OZ work in Brothels but not many, some work through Internet Ads but most work in 'Massage' shops where the client gets a massage for a fixed rate but can 'request extras.' The difference is in the power balance, with a brothel or an internet booking the client essentially calls the shots before the meet, but in a 'massage + extras' service, the worker makes the decision and can decline a request they don't want to meet for whatever reason.

After legalization, stories on the trade almost disappeared from the media but every suburban shopping centre now has one or two sometimes 5 or 6 outlets. Of itself these changes do not bring respect but they at least normalize the service.

Chances of it happening in the USA - nil: far too many God botherers happy to poke their noses in. Oz is not religious; the commonest return in our recent census for religion was "no religion". That helps a lot.

We should also consider that all the porn on the internet is produced by sex workers.

I started a thread about the money made and how the sex biz runs. No posts.

I have PMed several sex workers on this board. Funny, they are the ones who actually return PMs. They end up leaving the board because of the no respect.

So even on a sex board, is seems there is no respect.

The sex trade is the oldest profession, i personally dont think the workers will ever be treated the same as other professions, they do an essential job and could be called key workers they just look after a different side of society..i agree with all the comments on here everybody should be treated the same

When I was young I called for a sex worker to visit my home.
I was 21 and she was likely in her 40’s.
After the first hour I asked if she was available for another hour.
She was as it was late and I was her last for the night.
That second hour I spent giving her oral.
I reckon she really enjoyed that turn about.
She stayed the night and in the morning I cooked her bacon and eggs while she showered.
Respect starts at home 😊

I can imagine she wished all her customers were as kind and considerate as you were,,a little kindness goes a long way

Aww thankyou.
Actually I loved giving her oral. It was my first time giving oral to a woman.
I always craved to try it but silly young me worried women would freak out if I broached the idea.
She was wonderful to pleasure and her appreciative hands on the back of my head and fingers thru my hair spoke volumes
As I type now it’s still a fond memory.

When are sex workers going to be treated with respect? A year or two after you take religion out of the equation.

Well ... no ... some will always struggle to be treated with respect. But not all plumbers are treated with respect either. :)

I probably did well in the hobby because I was polite as I am in real life. Treated them very respectful. And I made sure they enjoyed themselves.
Funny how all the sudden I got discounts for repeat visits. Something about being a trombonist and spending a lifetime developing strength and skill with the lips and tongue. But more likely the respect.

I also did the research to understand what girls would enjoy the respect and the care. So most of my dates did very well.

Totally agree!! I have read that banks sometimes refuse loans to sex workers--not because of bad finances but because of this irrational puritanical stigma.

I think all people should be treated with the respect they deserve, but to suggest a sex worker is the most highly prized service is simply ludicrous.

When puritans (on the left and right) accept that sex can be commodified. Paying is legal, fucking is legal, no reason paying for fucking shouldn't be legal.

While I understand and respect your thoughts on this, I don't think it's as simple as you think. The term sex worker covers a lot of territory. I've seen your videos and enjoyed them immensely. You and your man have all kinds of sex for all to see. I see you now earn money for it. That's honest and respectable. No one has to watch what you do if they don't want to. You and he don't do anything most of us do too. The only difference is you do it on camera and post it. You provide something that a lot of us enjoy and hurt no one. I think that most porn actors and actresses also provide the same. Exotic Dancers and even prostitutes in brothels again give us what we desire with no one being harmed. They make a great living and move on when they're older and live normal respectable lives. My concern is the street walker, hooked on drugs, supporting a pimp and likely spreading STDs. It's hard for me to respect her, pity her yes, but respect her nope!

In most of the US, buying and selling sex is illegal in much the same way that buying and selling illicit drugs is illegal. Whenever something is illegal it's going to be stigmatized and those engaging in it will be treated as pariahs and criminals.

If buying and selling sex is legalized or at least decriminalized, a good deal of the stigma would go away. After all, there's no stigma attached to selling legal drugs (alcohol and tobacco), and I suspect that in places where marijuana is legalized, the stigma associated with that would go away too.

In other words, start with legalization and the social status that comes with it will follow. Just my $0.02

Paying someone for sex is now a felony in Texas.

That has to be the most draconian prostitution law in US history. Part of it is driven by religious fundamentalists, another by do-good social engineers who make the absurd claim that most prostitutes are sex slaves victimized by human traffickers.

But we are buying sex.
Porn sites are not free. But we do pay with a viewing of ads. But we do pay.
Some post porn of themselves, others are pro's. But there is a cost, so there is a payment.
