you go to the bank and attempt to fraudulently cash a check (FAIL, thank you Ms Credit Union Lady), go out front and fall asleep on the bench at the bank for 2 hours and leave your ID and the bad check laying there, you can pretty much count on getting caught...
And having the sheriff and loss protection officer at the credit union leave your ID's and personal information in plain view while they look at security tapes pretty much assures that I know who you are, where you live, your driver's license number, etc...
Add to that, the fingerprints that were lifted from the house, the jewelry box, etc will pretty much nail your coffin shut on the legal end...
Life is about to get real fucking interesting for somebody out there, in some way or another...

That sucks. Hope they nail the scumbag.

Unfortunately the real damage has been done, especially if you have a wife. That feeling like you where violated and loss of a sense of security. Knowing some scumbag was in your house touching your shit.

Exactly...between this and other things going on, she has been physically ill from the stress this morning...
Mr Element and Son are not happy...someone fucked with my wife, even if by fear, fucked with my house, my son (it was his checking account they tried to violate), my dogs were freaked out...when I was leaving this morning, they both went bugshit on me...it would have been better for them had they stolen my car or something...

There are little things you can do to make her feel better fast. Security system obviously. I also have cameras in my house that I can log on to and monitor from my phone. I have 6. The total cost was about 500. Take her to the range and teach her to shoot. Mostly a meaningless gesture but it will make her feel better.

when, after breaking in to my house, do you want me to call 911 to pick up your carcass or just drag it off to the back 40 and bury it with the rest of the trash?

We've discussed all the above, VA...I have a friend who owns a small, but very highly rated security company. He'll be over this evening...when all was said and done last night, the first thing she told me was, she wants that 9mm I almost got her for Christmas...she's as good a shot as this old Marine...I asked her if she could actually draw on someone and shoot them...she said she didn't know if she could live with killing someone, but would have no problem dropping their ass in a heartbeat if they came in the house...

BT, my thoughts exactly...and the Deputy's, for the most part...Castle Doctrine...

I am in no way a gun waving extremist, but I believe 1,000% in protecting my home, my family, and what I bust my ass for in life...You come in and fuck with me and mine, and I WILL hurry you right on along to meet your maker and sleep well at night...

Holy hell, that's scary. :(

So, this asshole has 3 "Conditional Discharges" for cashing stolen checks, and a pending burglary charge that he is out on a personal recognizance bond for...as well as 6 or 8 traffic violations - driving under suspension, etc...and not a single payment made on any of his criminal fines, according to the state criminal records search...
Methinks it is high time this stupid fuck ceases to be a burden on the honest folk 'round these parts...on the oxygen supply, for that matter...there are working folk that need that air!

When you're further affronted by the measly length of time he'll be serving as a result, I suspect you'll experience new waves of creativity in his rehabilitation involving the exploitation and manipulation of the basic levels of Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

PS: I hope my friend he didn't make off with any of your exquisite photographic equipment or works. Be safe and be careful.

No, he seems to have one MO...checks and things he can carry in his pockets...he took my son's checkbook from literally right next to $3K worth of camera gear, another $2k worth of lenses sitting next to the desk, and 6 nice guitars right behind him...dipshit...BUT, had he bothered my old faithful 6-string, the one I play all the time and have had for 25ish years, I would be hunting him down and laying a hurt on him bad about now...my wife had picked up my CF Card wallet and put it in her camera bag, and I was really scared he had taken it...I have a wedding on there to finish editing!

I hope you don't live in Massachusetts or you might run into him on the Mass Pike making 75K a year in his new "rehabilitation" parole program job as a union toll taker.
The 92F is still a good choice IMO. Best of luck to you and your family.
