What's your genre?

Well, ok, so porn is a genre in itself, but what about niches? Do you stick to one, or do venture outside your boundaries?

I am rarely successful on Lit when I venture outside the lesbian or parody niche, but then experimenting with reader boundaries is kind of cool to me, so I try to do it as much as possible (I've always been a bit of an in your face kind of chick).

Sometimes, I think that people don't use their niche as a vehicle to do someting new and evolve theirr so called genre (genre = rules) which can be changed and evolved.

What is your opinion on porn as genre, of niches in porn as genre or on how you alter them or work them anew?

These days, NonHuman. Was doing well in BDSM for a while. Romances before that.

I've been all over the map.

If the lesbian category had more niches, I'd explore some of them. I've no interest in non-consent or incest, but most of the others have plenty of potential ... so long as the characters involved are chicks. I imagine I could write a decent het sex story. I'm just not interested in doing so.
:)
I like to think I branch out in some ways. I kind of went against the grain with a bdsm story and added a heavy element of romance to it. I'm sure it's not for everyone, but it worked for some. I guess it depends on which direction my creativity is headed in at the moment. Sometimes I'm just in the mood to write something erotic. Other times I'm in the mood to push boundaries. I wish I could pin it down further than that, but it's just not in the cards right now. I'm very whimsical like that.

I can only write (well) whatever has gotten into my head, which is variable. If I set out to push other people's buttons or repeat a past success, nothing happens.

Do you ever get pissed off when all your lesbian stories go into the lesbian niche on Lit? GRRR! How happy were you with the expriement?

I was quite pleased with my effort, as several of my test readers had a bad taste for BDSM. Out of sheer loyalty, and possibly a morbid curiosity, they read it anyway. They reported seeing the bdsm lifestyle in a brand new light, finally without the unforgiving glare of hollywood, and had a new respect and interest in something they abhorred before. That was gratifying to say the least.

As for having all my f/f stories lumped into the Lesbian category, I don't really mind. I'd be tickled if there were subcategories beneath the larger heading of Lesbian Stories, but alas this is not my site to restructure. I did get lucky with my bdsm story, though. I submitted it to that category, and they left it there. It would probably have fared a little better in the Lesbian category, but I'm pleased with it where it is. It's holding its own, surprisingly enough. That was one of my goals, really. I wanted to see what kind of reception it would get based on the main content, not on the gender of the two leads. Success!

:D thank you. Which story do you think is your best? (I mean which one that you loved the most that maybe your readers did not?)

I generally spray my works all over the shop. I do have a thing for power games and mc, which is a generally common thread, but I don't think it can be said that I really focus in a single category.

In my other writing? I think I'm probably a chick-lit writer.

If "Elaborate Semi Quirky Quasi Cultural Romance (Actual Sex Optional)" is a genre, that's mine. Whatever else my stories are, according to Lit filing, they all are that. So even if I seem to venture away from one genre and into the next, due to different sexual direction, I'm really still on the same turf.

How so?

I avoid lesbian stories or those of women masturbating. I usually get bombed by trolls, so I stay away. On the other hand, I sometimes write LW, as sort of in "In Your Face" to the trolls. I do gay male or group or masturbating by men or EC or Anal. My incest stories are basically E/C between relatives. If I do an IR, it's just an E/C involving different races. Once in a while, I do a Celeb. :D

Since I participate in the survivors' contest, I do quite a bit of variety, but usually only one of those I don't care for.

A Quiet Evening At Home

The category guaranteed it wouldn't do that well. Most stories in that category are highly racist, and my story wasn't.

And your turf is? (for the lay).

Wow, that's a tough question. I could easily chuck two of my f/f category stories. I'm not real married to my chain stories, though they were fun and I learned a ton writing one of them. Of course there's the apron strings attachment to my first story, though it is not my best. (Which is sort of along the lines of what you asked. The reader response was fantastic, and it won a year-end contest ... but I feel I've grown so much since then.) I guess I'd have to say that I really accomplished a lot (in my mind) with my bdsm story, my letter/transcripts piece, and my recent f/f story Photographic Memory.

I tend to get tired of creating different scenarioes to have sex in, (in regards to writing, at least  ) but I've been really motivated in the last year or so to stretch my brain and attempt writing things that I experience but have never really attempted to explain. Ex: The feeling you get during sex when an entire eye-contact conversation happens and no words are spoken. The feelings and memories I have of that are quite visceral, but the challenge to put it into words so that it would translate to others was HUGE. I loved writing it.

Can you give us links? :)

And I know what you mean about 'creating' different scenarios - people in general only want so much - they can't really handle outside the cliche box - why else would porn be a billion dollar business? LOL

Edit to add - certainly NOT for its creativity.

these days all i can think of are ideas for the erotic horror category. might change at some point, i suppose... well, actually i am also trying some stuff in mind control, though i think it is a bit mixed with horror.

Well horror is certainly a genre ... so what do you do to own the genre? :)

LOLOLOL

Damned if I know.

My stories bounce around a bit. I have group, I have one Noncon, and I think the rest kind of fit into the Erotic Couples. (Although two could be counted as NonHuman.)

Which one do I think is my best? I would have to say Jade, although I am highly partial to Beach Party as well. (Both in my sig line.)

Like this and this.

Missed the links before - LOL  Thank you - but, tell me? I am blonde :|

I've gotten the best response so far to my darker stuff...namely Possession and especially I Alone. I suppose I'm better at tapping into the not-so-pretty side of my personality. ;)

I run the gambit. I stick to a niche with Fantasy for the most part, but I've written non-con, reluctance, lesbian, gay, romance, incest, non-human, first time... pretty much across the boards.

I got my feet wet outside my fantasy world with Laresa, and then tossed the dice on a full fledged romance in the real world with Finding Karen. I must have pulled it off considering all the feedback I've received from it :)

There's not really any one thing I prefer to write, and the feedback tells me that I'm running on a pretty even keel with every theme. I get a lot more feedback from romantic stories, but there are a lot more people reading those.

I just write whatever strikes me. Once my muse starts beating me over the head with something, I have to write it, and I almost always enjoy it, regardless of the theme.

Yes but what DO YOU LOVE to do in your stories? Play genre or play against it?

Link to Letters & Transcripts

I agree with the 'ouside the cliche box' sentiment. The only negative responses I got on my bdsm piece had to do with the fact that the players were intimately involved and invested more in the other than in themselves. The majority of bdsm stories I read, with some exceptions of course, have more to do with each character's individual journey through dominance or submission. It's rare that I see the dynamics intertwined in such a way that my basic idea of bdsm even works. And, as is evident in most of my work, the meat of every piece of erotica I write has to do with deep down motivation, emotion, and interaction. I find that most written porn and nearly all visual porn is geared toward more shallow/surface motivations and interactions. That's just a personal opinion, though.

The only money I invest in the porn industry is for tools/toys to use in my own personal interactions.
