*sigh*

Common misconception about musicians. Not all of them were high when they created brilliance. It was a running theme throughout the seventies, sure. But not the norm, contrary to popular public belief.

Drugs are not necessary to create magnificent works of art. But you (or Bill) can believe that if you want to. *shrugs*

Well having a lot of friends in the music industry I will believe that. Hell I've even taken drugs with a few major US bands.

I have seen a drug destroy peoples lives. I have seen friends turn to enemies within the space of a weekend. I have seen families torn apart by it. I have seen people come to blows, some even kill over it. I've heard of people that will spend 100s of dollars a night just to experience it. Sometimes kids as young as 13 are doing it, even though their bodies haven't properly developed, and they don't fully understand what it is that they are doing. Some people get addicted to it. Some junkies get so desparate for it they will do it in park lands, or in darken alleys. They can't even wait a few minutes to get out of the public eye and do it in the privacy in their homes. There is also a risk of catching a variety of diseases, some of which can be fatal. Every year millions of people all over the world die from these diseases, and the government spend millions of dollars a year trying to prevent it, but to no avail. And the withdrawal can leave people feeling depressed and aggressive.

Sex is a drug, and a drug that I consider to be the worse of them all. In my opinion casual sex is not something to be taken lightly, it's a one way ticket to hell. I would never have group sex, or sex with someone that don't know, or even sex with someone I don't have feelings for. I think that people who do, and peverted and play a very dangerous game that will more often then not leave you empty and lonely.
But I don't judge you if you want to carry out this life. It's a part of you so I accept it. Drugs are a part of my life too, it doesn't change who I am, so all I ask is that you accept the different way I choose to live my life.

At the end of the day we're all going to end up as worm food, so lets celebrate!

Anything can become an addiction....eating, sex, sleeping, exercising, the internet, drugs, cigarettes, alcohol...they are all bad and many times the addiction leads to hurting people who dont deserve it.

I love hearing how people justify their addictions. They are so vehement in shouting how it hurts no one at all and their lives are great....if life is so great, addictions arent needed. People dont do drugs when their lives are going great and they are happy.

Everybody self medicates. Everybody. Its part of the human experience. Like Lovechild said - it could be drugs or sex or excerise or beating your wife or betting on the horses or walking on the beach or volunteering to help AIDS patients. Everybody finds something that helps them get through the day - self medicates. But not everybody develops an addiction. That is where the difference lies.

sorry swettie. but just because people take drugs it doesn't mean that my life isn't good. i enjoy my life very much and i think doing drugs is also part of the joy. the same way hanging out with your friends is.

Whether they were on drugs or not really isn't relevant. And if it's performing artists you like to look at as examples, what has drugs done to Robert Downy Jr's career other than ruin it?

How many so called "stars" have had their careers trashed by the drugs? Far too many to consider drugs as a positive influence on anyone's life.

well ecstacy...all I can say is maybe your life is trash but your to high to tell.

Bombi is right...way to many people have come to ruin because of drugs...

I've had this arguement so many times, and every time all it boils down to is non-users think they are better then users, and users think they are better then non-users. For every story about someone who takes drugs and ruins their lives, there is a story about someone who takes drugs and enriches their lives.

Until you actually try a drug then you really have no grounds to argue if drugs are good or not. But having taken drugs I don't have permission to think that I'm somehow better then you. At the end of the day all we can do is to agree to disagree.

Besides the point of this thread was what's you drug of choice to have sex on, not what are your opinions of drugs and drug takers.

So back on topic.

Mmmm - my favorite would be sweet, sweet reefer...

It makes me so damn patient and TACTILE!

Worst would probably be LSD - you keep forgetting what it is you're supposed to be doing...

The point in my opinion, is that anyone who would purposefully break the law like that has got problems. Regardless of whether its "right" or "wrong", you're risking screwing up your life for the simple reason that if you get caught you're going to go to jail. To me it's just really irresponsible to take that risk.

I don't know if drugs are "bad" or not, because I've never taken them. I DO know that they are illegal and that getting caught with them can fuck up my whole life. Therefore, choosing to take them anyway is pretty fucking stupid.

I feel so sorry for these young girls I meet at work who are in jail because of drugs. They've severely limited the number of good jobs available to them, have to deal with being away from their family while they are in jail for 6 months to 2 years or more, most of them loose the job they already had. It's just sad. And then there's all the poor mothers who aren't getting to be there for there kids because they're stuck in jail.

No matter how "good" or "fun" or "enlightening" drugs are, why would anyone risk going to jail? It's a horrible experience! I feel sorry for the inmates at work sometimes...I mean here I am, a 21 year old kid, telling grown men and women when they can eat, when they can come out of their cells to use the bathroom, what they can wear, what possessions they can and can't keep, when they can have tylenol and sanitary napkins, how loud the tv can be, what channel they are going to watch, what time they go to bed, when they can go see the nurse/doctor...I mean really. It's no fun.

I would never purposefully do anything that would put me in the situation of having my freedom taken from me.

^^^^

I don't live my life based on what other people tell me is right or wrong. I don't do things because it's cool and fasionable, and don't avoid things because it's not sociably acceptable.
Hell if I did that I wouldn't be here! It would be vanilla sex all around.

I do what's right by me. I do the things that are going to enrich my life, and the lives of those around me. Whether that means to buy a random homeless man a meal, or to take waay too much acid and think that I'm a cow munching on grass.

Nelson Mandela went to jail for the crimes he commited. But does this make what he stood up for a crime against man kind?

But like I said, we'll never ever reach an agreement. So let's bury the hatchet. There are many things about your life that are better then mine too, so lets agree to disagree and get back ontopic. This will be my last post.

Hey...Ive smoked pot before. That was enough for me to realize how awful drugs are. Sometimes, you dont need to do something to realize its bad. You dont need to light yourself on fire to know it hurts. When you see people close to you fall apart and abuse you because of their addiction to drugs, you dont need to take it to know it is no good.

Do what is fine for your life...take all the drugs you want!! Your wasting your life away though. I hope you get some help before you end up ruining someone elses life or getting in trouble with the law.

I use to smoke pot and it made me mellow and relaxed if it was not against the law i would start smoking it again.

I do not drink anymore but due to other health conditions i have to take 3 different type of pain medications.

I have had bad results with arthritis meditions so my doctors want me to have a hlfway normal life then none.

But if you overdue anything it will be bad for you.

Hmmm…”Until you actually try a drug then you really have no grounds to argue if drugs are good or not.” Let me explain why this statement is false.

In 1990, my mother, brother, sister-in-law, friend and myself were on our way to a class. Twenty miles from home, we were hit head on by a man doing over 80 miles an hour. The coroners report showed the man had taken Methadone on top of enough Percodan, obtained illegally, to kill a horse. He left behind a young wife, a toddler, and six people he’d never met, who now faced years of recovery from the injuries he inflected. I say six, because the friend who was riding with us was 4 months pregnant at the time. She gave birth to a son two and a half months early, and her son pays for that to this day. Every one of us in that car still suffers today with chronic pain and continuing surgeries.

I personally have never taken Methadone, or Percodan. I have, however, seen and, to this day, still feel the affects of such drugs.

Now, I suppose you can cheer and make more condescending comments about another “moron” dead because of his drug use. But I’m sure that “moron” once felt the same way you do. That being that drugs are okay, you’re not harming anyone, you’re just having fun! You’re ENRICHING your life.

What you do in your home, with your money and your time is your business. But the MOMENT you step out of your home jacked up on drugs you become a danger to society in the worst way. Your actions become the business of everyone around you because you ARE a danger to everyone around you.

And no, I don’t expect this little post of mine to change minds. I just wanted to point out that you don’t have to TAKE a drug to know whether it’s good or bad.

So I guess you’re right. We’ll just have to agree to disagree.

How many of you get drugs from your doctor for ailments?, every month if not week these same drugs are on the news and now they tell us oh its linked to about 5 different disease's, yet we all continue to blindly take the drugs because its doctors orders, most of them have a far worse long term effect than any Illegal recreational drug. My stand point is synthetics are usual bad no matter what, yes acid, x and others are fun but the Government decided to outlaw them instead of doing proper research, this accomplishes nothing its still out there "the children" are still at danger, even more danger because it is not regulated and has many adulterants and we still do not know the long term effects. I stick with Cannabis and Mushrooms the only way either is going to hurt me is if its laced or if they are the wrong type of mushroom and neither is feasible because I cultivate my own. Some people just dont mix well with drugs and many stupid people beleive they can drive, it is not the drugs fault it is not the general populations fault its that lone person who made the decision. I can do any drug and function fine, im not going to drive but im also not going kill anyone when i step outside, there are worse things in this world than drugs. they are called religion and money, what war has a drug caused? and you wouldn't need to be lite on fire to know that it hurt but im damn sure you would need to atleast touch it. If we did not need to try stuff before we knew how it worked then we would be alot farther along but our society is based on trial and error. so i dont know what you meant by that. Drugs taken "recreationally" can be an eye opening and mind expanding experience that some people arent ready for, but also if you abuse it just like any thing else it will kick you in the ass. The legality issue i have a problem with I believe no one should be able to regulate what i put in my body, there is no reason they should have any control over such a thing as long as i am not hurting anyone else, which i am not, they do not have any right and i believe it is unconstitutional. but whatever some people do not agree and are so full of lies and propoganda that they believe whatever they hear, I hope that everyone will atleast look into what they speak of. a good drug refrence site is www.erowid.org under plants and drugs it has both positive and negative feedback in the experience section of each drug, but if all drugs were regulated we wouldnt have many "bad trips" because they would be pure and not "cut" with any numerous amounts of products that people cut certain drugs with.

(Kirk voice):

Too...much...moralizing...must...fight...urge...to...flame...

Khaaaaaaaan!!!

Well, I'm not moralizing. I'm not saying whether drugs are good or bad because I'VE NEVER DONE THEM. What I'm saying is that they are ILLEGAL and you can GO TO JAIL for them and that is cold hard FACT. Whether it's right or wrong is relevant. Personally, I don't think prostitiution or gambling should be illegal but in a lot of places THEY ARE, and you have to consider what two years in prison will do to your career and your family. I'm just saying that even if drugs were the best thing in the world, you shouldn't do them because they are ILLEGAL.

I think everyone here knows that such things are illegal.

Of course, many perfectly normal things have been illegal in our country's illustrious history. Alcohol has been illegal (Prohibition). Not going to church on Sunday has been illegal (the Puritans). Interracial marriage has been illegal (Jim Crow).

Didn't mean those things weren't "right". I realize that you get to see the awful, awful end of the law - where people both deserving and undeserving are locked up like animals. Believe me, I have no desire to join them there.

I guess what I'm getting at (and you may agree) is that our current drug policy is pretty ridiculous, and in dire need of a little rationality.

I think it would be wonderful if those caught selling or taking drugs were sent to rehab instead of jail. I would love it if pot and other drugs were legal...then they could tax the shite out of it and give the money to education or something. I agree with Alyx....as soon as you walk out of your house under the influence...your a danger to the rest of us. While you can say doing drugs is eye opening, mind expanding and harmless, there are millions of people out there who have been affected by someones drug/alcohol abuse. Too many dont use responsibly and I really cant believe anyone who says they really do use carefully...I have known many who have taken drugs in my time who claimed they were so carful about how they used but not one of them was wise about it. Most of them ended up arrested or their lives in complete ruins. They took their families down with them. This is something that when you do it, your not just hurting you. Often your hurting many other people as well. Its just not fair.

You can obsess on ANYTHING - I've seen marriages ruined and jobs lost from playing too much "Everquest".

A good friend of mine ran his business into the ground because he was playing too much golf. GOLF!

People ruin their lives by staying on the internet too much as well...

Hmmmm - I seem to see you on here a lot...perhaps you have a problem?

:p

I agree with you Lovechild...the majority of the people who are in jail for drugs need to be in rehab instead. Most of them are very nice people who just have a little problem. I also agree that pot should be legal and taxed to death just like alcohol and cigarettes. I haven't heard anything bad enough about pot to make me think it should be illegal. Sounds to me like it's milder than alcohol. Now crack/cocaine/crank/all that other bad shit...that stuff should stay illegal in my opinion.

Now I promised that I wouldn't wade back into this but I just had to let you know a few things about weed.

NEGATIVE

nausea, especially in combination with alcohol, some pharmaceuticals, or other psychoactives
coughing, asthma, upper respiratory problems
difficulty with short term memory during effects and during periods of frequent use
racing heart, agitation, feeling tense
mild to severe anxiety
panic attacks in sensitive users or with very high doses (oral use increases risk of getting too much)
headaches
dizziness, confusion
paranoid & anxious thoughts more frequent
possible psychological dependence on cannabis
clumsiness, loss of coordination at high doses
can precipitate or exacerbate latent or existing mental disorders

WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS

mild to moderate, non life-threatening withdrawal symptoms occur after daily use in some users. These may last for 1-6 weeks after cessation of use and can include anxiety, anhedonia (reduced experience of pleasure), headaches, general unease/discomfort, difficulty sleeping, and a desire to smoke pot. Severity of symptoms is related to frequency of use and individual sensitivity.
slight loss of appetite
finding non-stoned life a bit dull, increased boredom

So every drug has it's ups and downs, jsut because you only ever hear of one, doesn't mean the other side doesn't exist.
Afterall, if drugs weren't fun then I wouldn't take them!

*Just my personal opinion* Drugs don't SOUND like fun to me...it sounds to me like they take away part of my control over my own body and I don't like that...I'm too much of a control freak to turn myself over to a substance. That's why I very rarely drink and why I never smoked cigarettes; I couldn't stand the idea of something controlling me.(and yes, I do feel cigarettes control you...you always hear people say "I NEED a cigarette, I'm bitchy without my smokes, etc...)
