Nope just a waste of cash , tons of free sites out there

I'm 44, I live in South Florida on a small ranch in the Everglades. I've been in the scene for about 16 years as a top/femdom/mistress. I was prodom for a number of years, writer and speaker. In addition to BDSM/Fetish being part of my personal life, I also own & run fetish/bdsm businesses.

The questions are two fold and since I do run a fetish business the questions are helpful to me. I'm also curious since many of my past venues have been within female domination.

I post on a lot of boards. I know the rules and I've been around a long time. I feel that I have something to contribute and I am commitment to my business and offering qaulity products and services. Because my business is so parallel to my personal life, they often intertwine.

No one has to answer the questions. I wish they would because I honestly feel that it's important to get feed back from the public. There are far too many dishonest businesses out there who don't give a shit.

Ok, in some ways you are right. But I view a good pay site to be like a magazine except with more to do and read. I guess it all depends on the site and if the content interest you or not. Sometimes people into niche's don't have the time to scout all over finding pictures and or videos. They prefer spending 20 bucks a month to get weekly updates in a place that doesn't make them register a million times or drop a million cookies.

Let’s face it, you see live action and you have interaction. The draw back is finding a good service or someone who really understands the niche. I look at tons of content monthly for my sites and I laugh my ass off. I know you know what I’m talking about. If you’re into a niche like bondage or fem supremacy, you’re primarily interested in that niche. Clever webmasters, running niche sites, understand how important the quality of the content is. Most sites today, or at least those well run, offer weekly updates and a lot of exclusive content you won’t find anywhere else. A pay site should be an experience and not a haze of shit design to rip you off. There are good sites out there. I’m sure you heard of hogtied.com – That’s any awesome bondage site and very successful. You can tell the owners are really into it and they are happy to provide a service to enthusiast. Most of my sites have been primarily femdom- FemSupreme & Sex Slave Academy – my two biggest sites, draw a lot of couples. In fact I have quiet a few women members and that’s kinda odd. I believe they are seeking information, ideas, hot stories and our new audio stories with pictures. It’s a fact that women are more drawn to stories and I’m finding that they really love audio if it’s written with them in mind.

If I didn’t run pay sites already and have tons of friends I the biz, I’d buy a subscription to something I was into. Actually I wish someone would publish really nice graphic Ebooks I could download. I’d buy them.

I created Other Sex as a pansexual community. It’s free but we rely on sponsors. If no one clicks or buys we still have overhead. You’ll see that there’s a lot of programming there. We also have monthly columnist like Pat Califia, Guy Baldwin and others, including myself. These people are writers and speakers, make a living doing it and should be paid for their work, right? It’s kind of sad to see so many people, including models and actresses, work their asses off just to have your work ripped off and posted on a free site. So I decided to try something different and start with a free site & see if it can pay for itself via sponsors and up sells. I ask a lot of questions because it’s important to for me to dial into the public and run a successful community.

I have more then two sites. I do well. Probably not what most people think. I am an ethical webmaster. I won't do what a lot will. I don't promote teen or animal sites. As much as I love bondage and control, I won't promote sites like bang bus or anything close. I have a nice base. People know me. My members write me, interact with me and I make sure I leave something special for them.

One day I will again give another try, but as you even said there is alot of silly shit out there. I am not intrested in talking to bambi, who can't even spell her name. I really don't mean to sound like an ass but I didn't find what I was looking for......It was young college kids that act 12, folks walking in and out , lots ,I mean ton of backgound noise.

I do belive there are good ones out there but as you know and see the bad out weight the good so I would think it is a shame but most first time users will wind up on a bad one.

I would say like any other biz. teach your clients.........word of mouth is powerfull.

Online shopping for products (books, CDs, gifts, BDSM items sometimes) is as far as my online consumerism has gone. my sexual entertianment online has been free, and if it involves interaction, it's usually within a personal relationship. I do chat, although the format of that has become geared more toward discussion and not toward fantasy. I use the net to find business contacts and opportunities (paying writing markets, freelance artwork jobs) I also use bulletin boards as a vehicle for discussion, especially SM discussion, a topic near to my heart. I have met people locally based on connections made over the net, as friends, mainly. I also use the net to stay in touch with Leatherfolk I meet at events, people I have a deep connection with and are far away.

No, I don't. There are so many ways to get the content I need for free. If I found a publication I was absolutely in love with I might, but so far I've not.

If the pictorial is really lovely or hot, yes, if the pictures are more about creating a mood and less about illustrating the story, yes.

If there's an unforgettable image, if there's a writer I want to read more of, if there's something I need to come back to.

I am concerned about this from an industry standpoint, as a published writer of erotica. If more and more content becomes free, (as much of the content I use is) authors, photgraphers and designers are going to find fewer opportunities to make a living. Porn will have to truly differentiate itself to justify charging anything. The best writers will still push for print markets (I can sell Alyson a story for 150, most websites a story for about 20 bucks, and I've given up on publishing any of my work for free unless I'm so enamored of the publication I can't help myself.) Another casualty here will be the production values. Budgets determine how good content is. It's the difference between ambient fluorescent light and a well-lit fetish photo, and the difference between a generic one handed read and something with characters you've not met 1000 times.

I enjoy reading about sexuality, but not stories etc. I like researching new POV's and enjoy the discussion I find at lit.

I have searched free sites when with lovers to stimulate discussion and do find that it can be an erotic pastime. Pictures are okay, movies clips are better.

No phone sex sites.
No pay sites.

I do think for those who enjoy stories, pictures can enhance a story, but my own writing is geared toward the reader so that they may put themself into the position of the characters. If there is a photo of some blue eyed beauty, it is less likely that hte reader will identify with the characters.

Just my few adn meandering thoughts on this Friday morning.

I am concerned about this from an industry standpoint, as a published writer of erotica. If more and more content becomes free, (as much of the content I use is) authors, photographers and designers are going to find fewer opportunities to make a living. Porn will have to truly differentiate itself to justify charging anything. The best writers will still push for print markets (I can sell Alyson a story for 150, most websites a story for about 20 bucks, and I've given up on publishing any of my work for free unless I'm so enamored of the publication I can't help myself.) Another casualty here will be the production values. Budgets determine how good content is. DV: I feel this way too. I use to write an ongoing column for Nugget magazine where I preferred trading out AD space. It was worth it to me and it worked well for almost 6 years. The ad space became more expensive and the new editors didn’t feel the exchange was worth it and that I should be a paid advertiser & that they would pay me $300.00 a month for it. At the time I just couldn’t afford that time.

I write now for my sites and pleasure. I can’t afford to write for free. It takes a lot of time. I uploaded a story here called “Butch Dreams” and that story took me most of the day. If I’m horny I’ll write like that but it does take a lot of time. I really enjoy writing BDSM fiction & educational articles but I make my living from my sites, products and services. I hate seeing people buy from huge non-scene distributors before support the community. Amazon is a good example. I’ll first seek out a site that has an Amazon affiliate link to a book or product I want to support their venue.

There are excellent photographers out there who are struggling as well. This opens the door for crappy content production. I really struggle to find good content for my sites. Other Sex is free and with the writers I’ve solicited, I’ll have a huge cash outlay before I’ll see a profit. The tempo of the adult biz is very scary right now and I’ve been doing this many moons. Luckily I still have a few clients & do business consulting. With Other Sex I also view it more as a cartel giving BDSM writers, photographers & artist. We are carefully selecting products and services to create revenue to pay these people. Everything is free – chat, personals, forums, etc. but if you want to watch movies, see pictures, etc. that you pay for. All the articles, interviews and stories are free. There’s also a legal issue with age and showing graphic content.

There’s an article I wrote last year that gives some strong view points on Adult Internet. I got some flack but I don’t care. I’m already know for being out spoken and direct.

You're pretty young. I'd be very interested to know more about how you got into the scene. I was very out to family and friends. I rasied my son to think on his own, always guiding but allowing him to form his own conclusions. When he became a teenager he started asking me all kinds of questions & I don't ever lie to my son.

He dabbled with BDSM when he got older, around 18, and I think he even had two slaves, a male and female. We don't get into each others private lives, at least to that degree. It was a passing phase but I think he still dabbles.

I've been meeting a lot of younger people coming out into BDSM. They seem to have a much more progressive view of things. What are your feelings on this?

i have friends in different parts of the world, so the internet is the easiest and cheapest way to communicate. a big part of going online is messageboards. places that i nearly always go to when i'm online are the messageboards at www.halo-17.net, www.gothornot.com (i'm addicted, it's sad), and less often but still regularly, here.

no. i dont have a credit card, and i couldnt be bothered it i did. it's not that terribly important to me.

no, never felt the need. if i want real phone sex i'll do it with my SO.

DV: You CAN read them in bed with a PDA or Ebook tablet. Actually Ebooks are pretty cool. They have been slow in coming about but I see that starting to change. The cool thing about Ebooks is that you can add sound and even video. It's like a book that comes alive. Not everyone does this. I'm seriously considering writing a few Ebooks.

DV: lol- yea, well like I said, I'm pretty outspoken and people rarely give me shit. I've been in the biz a long time and I know what I'm doing from a legal and ethical point. I also make sure I network with the so-called porn lords, doing good business even if I don't agree. My best defense is to create & produce what I feel is good content made by scene people.
