There has been so much criticism recently about the lack of serious threads that I decided to tackle the controversial problem of State Birds head on.

You are absolutely right! And do we really need state trees? Other than to give the state birds a place to live?

We only have 2 seasons in Texas-summer & construction. It is awful, takes forever to get anywhere. While we are streamlining, how about state rocks, gemstones, mammals, etc.

What I wanna know why don't we have State Reptiles or Bugs or Amphibians or insects or fish...

Isn't that discriminatory to the rest of the things that each state has to only have birds, tree, and flowers!

Geez....that just ruffles my feathers!!!!

No...I hang my head...I don't know our state bird but...I am sure they keep him in the capitol in Olympia and feed him and pet him and talk to him every day and I am sure his name is George because the state is Washington so that would make him George Washington!!

I do, I do!!!!!! Texas has state stuff in every category:

State Bird: Mockingbird
State Song: Texas, Our Texas
State Nickname: The Lone Star
State Tree: Pecan
State Gemstone: Blue Topaz
State Food: Chili
I know there are more, but this is all I can remember without looking it up. Armadillos, Horned Toads/Frogs & the Mesquite tree are on that list, but not sure what they represent.

Nicole, come on over, lots to see and do all over the US. While you are at it, bring my friend from New South Wales with you, we need more cool accents here.

back to Nitelight's original question though, I don't have the foggiest idea what NC's state bird is. I think it is turkey as that is the most bird I eat, close second is the chicken though I must confess!!!!!
