What's with the count?

Once again, this relative newbie has a question; What's with the views count when you submit a piece?
I have noticed 36 views before something is posted. Now, since most of my submissions have been approved on first pass (once I learned where spell check is in Windows 7), I'm not complaining, just curious.
Does someone just click through on their way to somewhere else? Or are several 'bots checking on each other?
Or are my stories so great they are being passed around the office? (Dream on, boy)

It probably means nothing. It's opined to be a computer glitch. It seems to happen to some extent on everyone's story. There's no evidence that anyone, including a editor, is opening it until just before it posts (or gets rejected). The question gets asked four times a week on the forum.

....is that they may be using a similar equation they do to calculate & co-ordinate the votes & come up with 4.37 in ONE place, 4.48 in another, and 4.55 in YET ANOTHER....all within the same 30 or 45 seconds of checking all three!!! WHAT THE FUCK ???

Then there is that possibility that the computer just assigns a random number, every 137 minutes, while the submission is *IN* "review".....just to make us THINK that many actual eye balls are seeing it!

(aka: throw anything resembling meat to the lions, to keep them from eating Daniel! )

CRAP! I have one chapter of the big story, that has like a 4.79 or 4.81 rating solidly the last 3 months or so (and nearly the same % or even a 4.82 maybe; the final 2 months it was still "new" for that year)....but showed up on the top 200 for the year TOP LIST as like...4.66 or sumthin at the same time!

I pretty much gavedafukUP trying to figure the method & madness thing at THAT point!

Well, you were the one that brought up votes and scores, so it kinda seemed like you cared about it

As for the views, I've had stories released with as few as 12 views, and as many as 170+, but once it gets posted it never has more than a few.

Toplists, category lists, category hub sections, etc. all update at different times and on different schedules. So, what you're seeing is snapshots from whenever that particular list updated.

The one and only place you can find an accurate and up-to-date listing of every stat in real time ( except views, which only updates every so often on this page ) is your private author page.

I think it might be not "different equation" but "different update time". As somebody who hits 'refresh' compulsively, I've noticed that the view counts that appear at the bottom of a story update much less frequently than the ones on my profile or my submissions page.
