What's the Difference

The outcome you want is what determines where the arguments go; you either get closer to the truth or you try to dominate your opponent. Most people posting to AH already know what the truth is, so they go for domination.

So, JBJ, you believe there is a winner and a loser in an argument? You don't think there can be an equal agreement at the end of it? Would you keep on arguing until you are fighting? Is that when the domination comes in?

Reread my post.

The outcome of the debate decides what you have. The outcome gets you closer to the truth or its a quarrel for domination.

An argument is one-half of a debate. Each participant has his own argument. Each participant offers evidence and reason within her argument to make points OR she resorts to name-calling and other actions to try and dominate her opponent.

Jimmy (I hope you don't mind me calling you that name),

I reread your post.

Let me ask you this. What's the difference between arguing and fighting?

An argument is a process of reasoning directed at revealing truth.

Fighting is a quarrel.

And, I guess bickering has nothing to do with truth. It just keeps going back and forth and on and on. Kinda like some of these threads? LOL

Thanks for your input, JBJ.
