-sigh- Yet another arguement that could go on all day. However I may as well throw in my $0.02.
The first step towards removing this concept that there are millions of African-Americans is to remove this concept that we, as a country, need to bend over backwards to assist them. It was once stated that the true minority in this country is the blue collar white male. Know why? Because they are the only ones whom would be shamed if they took help to assist them in the world. There are scholarships for every minority out there, scholarships for being female, but very few if any for being a white male.
This brings up the big seller in rising out of this issue, education. Do not blame public schools, I am a product of those same schools. No, I was not treated differently than a minority, we were all students. However, when it came down to it, too many African-American students were...how should I put it...less focused on their studies. Too many of them were more concerned with their clothing, their car, or with getting laid. Of the amount of high school females I've seen become pregnant, most were African-American females. -shakes my head- This has to stop, and has been stopping from recent reports, that indicate that the rate of teenage pregnancy, particularly in African-American females has dropped. Kudos to them for finally realizing the importance of education first, children later.
Too many are reduced to taking lower level courses, in a very diverse school that I attended, the vast majority of Honors/AP students were...white and Hispanic, with Asians following up, followed by African-American students. Business classes also too, followed this trend. Even when I came into the Navy, the nuclear program, of which accepts you solely based upon testing, produces numerous white sailors, with a smattering of African-Americans, yet you see a larger percentage in lower scoring jobs. Quite often this is a result of not applying oneself in school.
Yes, you can say that inner-city schools are the roughest and therefore harder to get an education, but the knowledge is there. There are dedicated teachers whom will fight for thier students. Its a matter of wanting it, and getting out of the ideal that they will be taken care of.
Affirmative Action was one of the worst concepts out there, why? Because it made it hard to choose the best qualified person for the job and discriminated against many. But yet, it is just another way to separate a race of people, and only to cause hate from others due to the actions of the law. But most importantly it creates reliance upon the system.
The last thing we need to get rid of, particularly dealing with Wright, is the HATE. And I am not talking about racism of white on black but black on everyone else. We are a country, we are all humans. When I look at a person I don't see black, white, Hispanic, Asian, etc etc, I see a person. I hate racism with an absolute passion, but what really irritates me is when I see racist African-Americans whom then turn around and scream when someone says something in return to them. This is truly a pathetic nature, if you want to eliminate the racism against your own race, then eliminate your own races racism towards others. One thing I will always remember, is passing by an apartment complex, of which the vast majority of the population was African-American. It was the 4th of July, I was wearing my command ballcap, next to the base, walking to work. They were having a picnic outside, so I looked, smiled, waved to them and yelled to wish them a happy 4th. What I got in return was the speaker at the time cursing me out as a piece of shit cracker and then went on a rant about how white people are essentially the devil, in front of very impressionable children. How do you expect to turn around the numbers of people in jail etc etc, when you create hate like that?
-sigh- I give up, I really do, whine all you want. But the next time I hear "Well you owe me cause of slavery" don't be surprised at my retort involving dirt poor ancestors whom arrived in the 1840's, stayed in the North, and one dying for the North at Gettysburg. -smirks- I don't owe you shit, you owe yourself to work hard and get ahead, the same as I have had to do, cause unlike you, I don't get scholarships cause of color, laws written to help me get a job, or the backing of people like Rev Al Sharpton.
