If you came of age perving on Harmony Concepts bondage mags, cotton clothesline is autmotically a very erotic rope to use. It's perfectly fine for static bondage (weight supported by subject, not rope) however in my experience getting a knot into or out of the stuff is a royal pain in the ass, so it's a trade off. Wash the hell out of it a few times before use and it will feel very good against the skin, but work slowly, because cotton will rope-burn your person moving against them at a slower rate than the kind of nylon I'm going to recommend.

What I like, is MFP or nylon, braid, not twist, and I recommend a width of 6mm to 8mm (1/4=5/16 inch) and no wider, or your lover will be lying on fist-sized knots and that's going to cut your fun short.

Double your rope and wrap your rope frequently to distribute the pressure along the limbs. I like 30 foot lengths, you can do most things with them and can always add another 30 feet.

One thing you are going to want to consider: look at the rope carefully before buying. Some cheaper MFP twist has a solid nylon core running through the middle of the rope, you will feel a stiff shank kind of slid into the soft nylon. Reject this stuff, it's just nasty. The rope you use should feel silky and supple, you should use rope people want to be in unless the point of the scene is frustration and abraision, and frankly if I want to abrade my victim I get out a horse brush. You can get MFP at the building supply megalith of choice, and if you want glam colors www.rainbowrope.com

Finished hemp rope is fantastic, if you are really a fetishist. Some people with severe wool allergies, especially, can't tolerate the hemp, but it's really got a unique, soft-yet-grippy/smooth-yet-rough quality and a great smell. This is going to be pricey.

Also consider: the lowly bandanna. 3M vetwrap. Duct tape over tights and clothes. Pantyhose.

And do not under any circumstances forget your med shears, but if you climb I know you're got those or a hook knife or a whole mess of get me out of this now stuff.
