what's getting your wisdom teeth feel like?

Not sure...I'm so stupid I'm gonna have some wisdom teeth put in:D

Are you asking how it is to let them cut they way out on their own then have the dentist take em out? Or are ya talking about having the dentist cut them out before they cut through your gums on their own?

If your talking about having the dentist go in and cut them out right away it doesnt hurt that much. They put ya under and give ya some great pain meds so the pain doesn't come through. And even getting them yanked out like they do with regular teeth won't hurt that much either.

well i'll tell you what they do, open your mouth and put a spreader in to keep it open. the gums over the tooth they do a star cut, then they pull the flap open, use an elevator to get under the root and lift the tooth then if it don't just pop out they will brake your tooth in half and pull it out one peice then the next.

they will most likely keep you awake but give you gass so you don' tknow where you are.

or if there is posibilitys of complications they will put you to sleep

eather way the pain don't start untill say 4-5 hours after you get home. then you will feel your mouth fill with blood every now and again, DONOT suck in , straw, breath heaveily smoke etc... hurts like fucking hell. luckily the pills will put you to sleep most of the time.

It feels a lot like having teeth removed.

It's actually a lot less painful than you fear.

sexyspank - you is siwwy.

I've had six teeth pulled, none of them wisdom, and none of them enjoyable in the slightest. I'm going in for the four wisdom teeth soon, so either I'll tell you, or you tell me. I think whether it hurts or not it'll be a relief, though, 'cause one tooth has an olympic-swimming-pool-sized hole in it, and it hurts like a mofo. There's hardly any tooth left, the hole is so big. My first cavity, but I'm making up for lost time.

Oh, forgot to add that mine were impacted into my jaw bone. So I went through a lil longer/tougher procedure. Don't know how bad yours are but if they are impacted they gotta cut them out of your jaw bone.

With Novocaine, it just feels like ALOT of pressure. No real bad pain.

I've only had one removed, and it was already showing through.

They gave me a few shots of numb-juice and told me to keep my mouth wide open. They went right in there and peeled away the gum, cracking the tooth into two nice little halves.

I went home and laid in bed for the rest of the day.

That one wasn't so bad, but I can't imagine what it's going to be like when the other three get pulled. :(

Just don't look up Lickerish's thread. Poor thing.

Depends on how bad they are. Fly described what they basically do, but for some people, there are complications. Impacted, coming in side ways, having 4 roots instead of 3, small jaw, all of these and more can complicate the surgery. Best bet, talk to your dentist and have him recommend an oral surgeon to do the work. When you talk to the O.S. talk about whether or not he thinks it would be ok for you to be put fully under if there are any things that you are afraid of about dentistry, etc. Good Luck!

They took my 4 out. I chose the general anesthetic route, so I slept through the whole thing. It was nice. No complications, no problems.

I shook a lot, then they put a blanket over me. Then I went to sleep.

9 months later I still don't have all of the feeling back in my lip.

well... the teeth are already in.. i just changed dentists and he took xrays and everything.. he said that they need to come out cuz of the angles they're growing in on (pointing out towards my cheeks)..

and i've never had a tooth pulled either...

Hell, am I the only one who didn't get pain meds after I got mine pulled? I had mine cut out when I was 16. I was put under for it, and to this day don't remember how I got out of the dentist's office and into my mom's car to go home.

I do, however. remember living on mashed potatoes and squash and chocolate shakes for the better part of a week.

:)

Honestly, it didn't hurt too badly for me. It ached for a while, and I couldn't chew for a while, but the pain was tolerable with some motrin. Don't fear them too much. I was a sissy at 16 and made it thru just fine.

thanks SC... and everyone else too...

i'm not scared.. so much as i am curious what it'll be like afterwards.. its just that whole bit of never had a tooth pulled before that makes it intriguing almost..

Have it done by a good Oral Surgeon and pain will be very little. Mine hit the jawbone and curled back like fish-hooks, had them cut out, no big deal.

When the Novocaine wears off, it feels a bit painful, but, that's why there's Advil. Oh, and, I hope you don't smoke, because, you wont be able to do that for 24 hrs. afterwards. Or,(this pissed me off,)can't drink alcohol.

I don't know why the dentist tells people that. I was smoking within hours of having mine cut out.

When I had all 4 of mine taken out last year, it was the best thing that could happen to me. I used to have terrible migraines, then once they were gone, no more migraines.

It worked for me, don't know why else someone would need them all taken out, unless for that reason.

I had all four of mine done at once, two impacted and the other two were pulled. They gave me what they called 'twilight' anthesia, so I was aware of what was going on but I didn't feel anything.

The smoking thing, if you do smoke just know that the chance of your getting 'dry socket' is very likely. And take it from me, that was far worse than the actual tooth pulling.

I'm sure you'll do wonderfully though, it really isn't as bad as it seems.

kitty

btw... Mine had to be removed because I'd already had braces on my teeth, keeping the wisdom teeth would have screwed up 4 years of dental work :D

mine are getting pulled partly for the headaches.. but partly for a few other reasons.. 1)the top ones are pointed towards my cheeks 2) my mouth is a bit on the small side and i cant get a toothbrush in there without popping my jaw out of joint (bad idea) 3) they are at the point of decay and close to cavity that i'd be getting them filled about every 2 years.. so they're all 4 getting pulled for those reasons (which i think are good ones).

i'm definitely going to an oral surgeon. i cant stand the idea of a needle in my mouth (and my tongue will attack it on its own) for novacaine. i've never had novacaine before, and i never will either.

Ok, sounds like you'll probably be refered to an oral surgeon for this. Warning, they have to take the ones coming in sideways out a bit differently, as in they come out in pieces. So, it's going to be a bit more tender than most sites, and if you can, GET PUT UNDER. You're going to have bruises, I'll warn you of that one, since to get the ones out of the top, they have to do funny things to your jaw, but you should be ok, just make sure to follow doctor's orders on it. Don't smoke, do the saline (it doesn't taste great, but it helps) and don't fool with the stitches.
