I made boy bait (blueberry cake) for My girl's birthday last week. Then I made her lamb meatballs in a spicy eggplant tomato sauce over bulgar for her birthday dinner.

Dear D2MLG,

you can cook for my birthday as well, should you want to do so. :)

Currently cooking: mini (or actually micro) croissants made from scratch for breakfast. Somehow my geometrical thinking sucks and I always make the squares about the size I'd like the croissants to be, and then realize that I'm gonna halve them and end up far smaller ones than I originally planned. I really need to work on this.

(And thank you, construction site for not letting me sleep after 7am - leaves a lot of time to cook and bake in the morning. Or maybe I still would rather sleep.)

I'm currently.. seriously, it's on the stove boiling out the last of the moisture right now. I'm on my first attempt at making tamarind pate de fruit' candies.

lol Thanks. :)

It was my first time making the meatballs and eggplant sauce and it came out really well.

Baked BBQ chicken, roasted red potatoes (seasoned & tossed with whole garlic cloves), Berry salad (blueberry, strawberry, and raspberry), and cucumber & tomato salad (tossed with feta, red onion, and vinaigrette).

bread and butter pudding.

the kind with semi stale crusty white bread, very very liquidy (it's a word now so there!!) egg custard, a whole sliced open vanilla bean or two, some sultanas, tiny bit of orange peel, left overnight to absorb all the liquid.

add some brown sugar on top to glaze while baking.

served warm with king island double cream

True "gravy" (tomato sauce, for you non-Italians!), with fresh garden tomatoes, basil, oregano, and peppers...
only the garlic came from the market!
(absolutely planting garlic next year!)

Oh...did I mention with the best meatballs & bragoli EVER?)

YUM! The house smells SO good...
:D

That sounds so lovely, I want to come over! I wish I could grow tomatoes, but I'd need a greenhouse for that and the balcony is just a bit too small for that. Luckily I get tomatoes from J's cousin, though, and his parents have just built a greenhouse in their garden, so next summer I'll be able to grow some tomatoes there.

I've been cooking a lot of mushrooms lately. I pick the mushrooms myself in the forest and the onions, garlic and herbs come from my balcony garden. It's such a great feeling to be able to cook from stuff that you haven't bought from a supermarket. :)

Sweet and spicy pork with green beans, peppers and lots of garlic and scallions.

I marinated the pork overnight for porkfection.

Rack of lamb with rosemary and thyme sprigs shoved into the skin, baked baby potatos with sour cream and chives, tomato , rocket and feta salad with a home made vinegarette dressing.

Turkish coffee from beans I roasted and baklava I baked a couple of days ago for dessert.

lately a lot of ---- meatloaf!

Lamb meatloaf with rogan josh spicing, red bell pepper, and coriander chutney
thai-ish buffaloaf with yellow curry, green bell pepper, topped with sriracha ketchup
turkey meatloaf with shallots, garlic, capers, and tomato paste

I use oatmeal for my filler when I'm feeling naughty and ground almond when I'm being good. 2 eggs.

I am probably going to have a breakdown when farmer's market ends. Anyone had any luck with this freezing herbs in ice cubes thing I saw somewhere?

Yes, I've done it for chives and parsley and it's worked great for the taste, but I thought it didn't make much sense to freeze them into such small cubes. Usually, if I've frozen herbs, I've just rolled them into a loose lump and frozen that, then just scraped or cut off a piece that when I've needed it. If you don't pack the herbs too tightly, it's not hard to use even if it is a big lump instead of many small ice cubes.

But I wouldn't freeze all herbs. Like basil, for example, because it goes bad even in the fridge. I wonder what'd happen to it in the freezer. Has anybody tried? I always dry my basil for the winter. I've also made herb infused oils and vinegars. They've been fun and I've used them a lot, too.

God, that's beautiful. I'm glad I can look but not touch.

Thanks. :)

Like Seela said, ice cubes are not that practical.
If you spread the chopped herbs on a bakingsheet on a tray and freeze it, it's easy to put it in a zip lock bag or plastic container as soon as it's frozen. Then it's easy to get out just the amount you need.

I made borscht, first time since my Mom died.
It's mouth watering good, wish she could have tried it, sure she would have been proud.

Gruyere and prosciouto on ciabatta with a little extra virgin, late harvest, cold pressed olive oil - toasties.
