What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

I've never had rhubarb, but I'm so curious!
Is rhubarb not used there or does it not grow there or have you simply never run into it?

It’s ubiquitous here in summer, at least until strawberries roll in. The strawberry season is late this year, it’s been so cold. I’ve yet to have a single non-frozen strawberry this year.

It doesn't grow here much, to my knowledge. A quick Google search tells me it needs more of a cold season than we have here to grow properly, I think. So I haven't run into it yet. :)

Strawberries start getting ripe around May here, if I remember correctly. Then, you get blackberries in July. Looking forward to those!

I hope you get to try it! It’s tart and yummy.

Yup, it’s excellent, such a good flavor combo! Strawberry rhubarb kissel is a childhood thing for me.

Rhubarb chutney is really good as well. Goes with all kinds of savory dishes. I have quite a bit of rhubarb left over from the baking, chopped and all, so I might as well make some chutney.
Oh I love rhubarb so much. I make rhubarb preserves/jam every year and it’s so good with a funky cheese or on a waffle.

Oh yes, rhubarb is very versatile and goes with many things.

Rhubarb is also nice because it’s easy to make pretty, geometrical designs with it on top of tarts if you so wish. It’s a dead simple way to impress your guests without actually having to know tricky decoration techniques. 😁

So true! I watched an insta reel of someone making a tart that looked like 3D rhubarb on top. In theory, I love it! Executing, I could never.

I do that with tomatoes, though - lots of different colors and varieties in a pretty pattern on a tart.

I did BBQ chicken thighs in the air fryer. Only the second time I've ever used the air fryer. Had a chicken-flavored rice side and some tomato and cucumber slices to go with it. :)
