What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

Beet soup and chevre. I feel like baking, too, so maybe bread? Bread rolls? Pulla? A cake of some kind? I don't know.

When in doubt: cake.

We had blueberry and coconut smoothie, eggs and sandwiches made with cheese and alfalfasprouts on danish rye.

Sounds good!

I didn't end up baking today. Maybe tomorrow. Any suggestions for cakes? :)

All good suggestions above!

Re: pudding cake. I didn't know what it was and googled and there were a couple of different variations. What did you mean with pudding cake, Dave?

I got a bag full of apples from a friend's garden, so I think I might make something with apple. I'll have to think about this a little. :)

A Streuselkuchen would have been good option, too! Although plum and cherry are my absolute streusel favorites, so an apple version might have felt a little lacking.

Anyway, I made some sort of an upside down apple cake. It's in the oven now. I started with a recipe, then decided to do things my own way, substitute lots of things and hope for the best, as one always does when baking... Fingers crossed! :D

Dinner is parasol mushroom schnitzel with carrots, green beans and poached egg.

Bloody Mary Brisket is in the oven and smelling fantastic, only another 4.5 hours of cooking to go.

Seela, something like this:

As a side note, Godiva makes a dark chocolate instant pudding that is really good.:)

So a poke cake is the general idea? I've never made one, nor thought of using pudding in a cake!

I also found a recipe for a cake that was basically a flan that had a cake batter layer poured over the pudding layer and was then baked into a cake goodness. It looked good, I might have to try it some time. :)

yes and no  i was looking for zwetschgendatschi (and the recipe is linked in the picture) it was mentioned this ending week in a tv show i was zapping through :D

and Y/you might know.. there are Pflaumen (the bigger red one - plums(?)) and Zwetschgen (the smaller bluish ones - prunes(?))
linked due to size

Yup and Mirabellen, one of my favourites.

That’s a nice recipe. I sometimes have trouble with german recipes for baking because they often seem to have instructions like ”eine Packung Gelierpulver”. Sometimes I can find the actual amount via google these days.
Other times you are asked to use Sahnesteif and we don’t have that here.
At least these days you can get both Topfen (Quark) and Mohn these days.

What are you having with the brisket?

My cake turned out so good! I was a little worried it might be raw, but it wasn't, it was just very moist and had a ton of apples and some salted caramel action on top that made it difficult to gauge the level of readiness.

I substituted most of the regular flour with oat flour and I think that gave the whole cake a nice, earthy background hum. I also added some lemon zest and ginger as well as cinnamon and nutmeg in the batter.

It's supposed to have horseradish mash, but I really don't like horseradish so it will just be some really nice smooth mash and savoy cabbage that i might mix some bacon and onions with. I'm not sure about the bacon at the moment as it might detract from the beef

Your cake sounds delicious

I made low carb snicker doodles for a coworkers birthday tomorrow.

I made 2 batches since it was a new recipe (being low carb and using almond flour). I cut the sugar by a 1/4 cup on the second and I like them better.

It was super easy and something I'll make again..
