What will happen to north american auto production?

My Hyundai Sante Fe was made in the USA with 85% American parts. If Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, and several others can make cars in America, why can't Ford, GM, and Chrysler?
There are some exceptions but most final assemblies do take place in the US. It's so many of the sub-components that are out sourced.

They can, but you wont be able to afford it.

Lol
Go back and look at your inventory link. Industry avg. is 100 but US makers are on the high side of that curve. The dealers can't afford to 'floor plan' that inventory for that long.

There’s talk about Stellantis chopping prices and those retro style Ford Broncos are now reduced by 10k.

But there are also quality issues.

844,000 GM 6.2 L small blocks with bad bearings is the latest.

I believe each and every car sold in this country MUST show the country of origin for parts made in other countries. It might have to e a certain percentage, if I remember correctly.

What kind of car do you drive? Can you go out right now and tell us the percentage it says of parts made outside of the USA.
I'll wait.
Nothing?
OKden, STFU.

I think the US auto industry will continue to produce shitty overpriced cars regardless of any tariffs or import duties/fees.
I am in the unusual position of agreeing 100% with you on this point.

Stellantis seems to be in desperate trouble and very close to Chapter 11.

The first of GM or Ford to get some kind of joint onshore manufacturing deal with a Chinese EV maker could be a big winner. Costs, especially labour would have to be slashed by 90% on an automated production line, and some sort of deal, acceptable to Washington worked out for imported parts. The Auto Workers Union probably has no future at all. Junior and Middle management needs to be decimated and the obscene compensation of the senior guys made dependent entirely on medium/long term profitability.

Interesting to see how Tesla responds to major changes.

2022 Hyundai Sante Fe. Right on the original sticker is says "Engine manufactured in Korea, 85% of remaining parts manufactured in United States" But since you know better than the sticker mandated by the state of Washington, I must be wrong, and as always you MUST be right.

This is like Fender guitars!

GM builds nearly a million trucks a year in mexico, most of which go to the USA.

American and Canadian made pickups are mostly sold in Canada.

Ha! Americans get to drive the Mexican shit.

“G.M.’s chief executive, Mary T. Barra, said the company could increase production at U.S. pickup truck plants and send more of the trucks that it produces in Canada and Mexico to other countries, instead of exporting them to the United States.”

This is the first direct question you have ever answered. I wonder why?
I measure a man on the car he drives. As a matter of general principle, I refuse to respect or talk to any person driving a freaking Hyundai!
I don't have to look at any sticker because I buy from Detroit! Ford! American made, baby! When you read this, I want you to imagine me seeing you eating the dust of my Mustang's V-6 engine. LMAO! Buy American, you foreign car buying traitor!

Mustangs are 35% euro and chinese sourced.

German engine block, body from Canada, trans from China etc. Final Assembly, Flat Rock.

Lol

What a piece of shit. Your car has parts made in both Mexico and Canada. I buy a car for its value. Looked at the Explorer. What a piece of shit. Looked at the Traverse, it was even worse. So, take your Canadian/Mexican Fix Or Repair Daily, and enjoy. Or is it a Fucked On Race Day!

I saw something today in Automotive News suggesting that tariffs on Feb 1 will take about a week to shut down auto production in North America.

Mexico-USA-Canada is completely integrated as a production loop, so it would take what… 2 years plus?…to build all North American cars in the USA.

I think most people outside the Butters Retard Club here on Lit ignore a lot of Trump’s posturing… but what do you think will happen?
Use the switch of auto makers to airplane manufactures during WWII as your guide. We’ve switched on a dime before…we can do it again.

There will be growing pains for sure. Let the bedwetters cry.

Or is it a Found On the Road Dead? Piece of foreign shit. A shadow of the car Lee Iococca made in 1964.

The new union contracts will defeat anything the companies do for cost savings on labor. This means the only area left to reduce costs is in materials.

You think cars are made like crap now, just wait until the bean counters get a mandate to cut costs or else.

Personally I think a lot of the "electronic tech" will go away first. Car mobile hotspots, nav, and things like that are costly in materials (computers and wiring and software royalties) for the value they return. I also think that car makers will lobby for a reduction in the pollution standards. This will allow them to produce only marginally smoggier cars but at considerably less cost to the consumer once all the other "options" are eliminated. But, don't look for spare tires in the trunk to return.

I drive a Ford Mustang. Love it. My jeans are Levi's. Love them too. No foreign made pussy Jordache has ever touched this fine ass.
When I get on a bike - it's strictly HD. My cockclit is certified Grade A American beef. You guys go f'in eat your sushi with wagyu. I only eat burgers.
Cry all you want on my gas guzzling, 0-60 in 6 seconds American muscle V-6, you tree huggers. I am and will always be more American than any of you crying croc tears on the percentages of where a car is made while you put-put around in a Hitler VW. I'm so old skool American that I don't watch any news organizations that are foreign owned by crusty Australians and 911 causing Saudi's! I don't go to social platforms owned by Nazi's that escaped to South Africa. I love this country and if I want the news then I stick in an old VCR tape and watch whatever Walter Cronkite has to say rather than have my ears polluted with foreign news. BY every single measure you guys are a joke and traitors against this country! Unless JoePep is here on this thread, then I wish that none of your filthy foreign Irish, Italian, German parents had ever come over here to ruin the American mix. GTFOH alls of yalls!

(haha :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: sometimes I even crack myself up!)

Maybe it’d be smart to let the auto industry work the way it wants instead of having massive government intrusion from tariffs?

Haha. If I did not know any better - I'd swear you sounded like an 'unleash the free market' Reagan republican.

trump is so wishy-washy that he makes these RW members come here and never feel like they're standing on solid ground. Should they get the vaccine trump takes credit for or spit in the face of science and Dr. Fauci? Should we wait on trump to build the wall or should we give our hard earned money to Bannon's GoFundMe? You and I are gonna have so much fun making these idiots eat crow.
The tariffs should have been placed on China day one. Keep hitting em in the nuts, MR!
